The cylinder heads are Tamiya Steel while the crankcase(?) is Alclad Chrome. I painted the upper part of the cylinders transparent yellow while the lower half is transparent blue. Mig Engine oil is put around the springs and tones down the chrome. The spark plug wiring is .001” EZ line. Will install it once the nacelle is out of clamps and painted.
Thanks Paul. It is a low parts count for the kit, maybe less than 15 for the entire nacelle. I guess that reflects the construction of the day. Progress will be slow as I am traveling for a couple of weeks.
I have completed the chassis of the Austin kit. It looks great and to be honest I fell in love with this small vehicle (although I am a modern tank builder chasing Leopard 2A4, M1A2 and Merkava MkIV and so… But this armored car looks great. Has certain style and beauty.
One interesting thing I learnt from a fellow modeler here: the leather seat looks better when glazed with darkish red just as it is done here.
The concept is that this particular vehicle will stand on the Red Square in Moscow, surrounded with civilian people in April 1917, so it will be a bit dirty but not yet destroyed and mild weathered. Actually the fenders are waiting for the hull to receive the complete weathering.
If I can get a 1/35 Lenin figure, he will be added, too
That is plan B. I will also need some Miniart civilian figures (some of the passengers, villagers and workers sets look ok). It will be a fortune to add 6-10 people. Will need at least two soldiers as the side and back doors are open.
