Hi @KoSprueone, so I went ahead and watched Stalker, which at 2hrs and 41 minutes, with numerous ambient settings, sounds, and subtitles was a bit of an undertaking in and of itself though you did warn us of this implying that it could be dangerous “entering The Zone”
.
One take away is the abundance of ideas for post apocalyptic/post industrial, minimalist/haunting landscapes for use in dioramas of any kind
Wow! there are lots of cool images of all sorts of things - abandoned armor, vehicles, buildings, tunnels, natural landscapes, bleak, slightly less bleak, and on and on.
There is of course the speeder they use, shown above, which looks pretty cool zipping through the warehouse and into the desolate and abandoned countryside, but another dramatic rail scene is of them riding closely behind a switcher in the Land Rover. These could all be worked into some really cool model projects - very inspiring stuff.
As for the film, it reminds me of a significantly less light hearted, less clear interpretation of the general plot of My Dinner with Andre (ha! another thriller!
), where characters are seeking (intentionally or unintentionally) the meaning of it all. An obvious difference between the two is Andre sets out to tell us (his friend Wally and by extension, us the viewers) the story, and Stalker lives and takes others (and us) through the story.
In a weird way and until now, unnoticed by me I think Andre is actually much more direct and succinct (which I know seems very hard to believe if you’ve seen it) than Stalker, as he tells us that his life was getting weird, and then how he went on a quest to sort out the meaning of it all and what that may be.
That said, I agree with what Wally says to Andre: " I mean, why is it necessary to have more than this, or to even think about having more than this. I mean, I don’t really know what you’re talking about. I mean…I mean I know what you’re talking about, but I don’t really know what you’re talking about."
Whereas, the guy in Stalker takes a different approach, by not divulging too much too soon (I won’t say more in case you decide to watch this): read: if you do decide to watch this, be prepared to wait and be patient, and then be more patient, see some cool images, and be patient - and reread KSO’s description before starting.
Cheers
Nick
