OK, this is probably going to be highly controversial but it will be the 25th anniversary of 9-11 and i was thinking of an open campaign with the idea of selling the finished model to raise money for 9-11 organisations/charities.
my second choice would be a helicopter gunship campaign.
If we’re looking at anniversaries, next year is 110 years since the Battle of the Somme. It saw the birth of the Tank Corps (and tanks in general), plus the use of aircraft in fighter, recon, and bombing roles, artillery of all types, and all sorts of infantry and support transport from horses to petrol-powered trucks. If we broadened the theme to simply “1916” it could also draw in ship-builders from the Battle of Jutland! All sorts of different ways for folks to be involved…
How about an “Anything Civilian” campaign? Can be fantasy, Sci-Fi, civilian vehicles, Post-Apocalyptic, aircraft, boats, media reporters, railroad cars, houses and buildings, humans performing civilian jobs, construction vehicles, airlines, streetcars and cable cars, firefighters, paramedics, kids, baby carriages, shopping carts, fruit stands, fishing people, sports athletes, pilots (civilian only and unarmed and not piloting any military aircraft), scientists, etc. Anything depicting a civilian and civilian life.
Rules:No weaponry whatsoever (no police allowed because they are armed). No swords, guns, axes, armor, knives, handguns, batons, or anything depicting any form of armament or connections to the police, the battlefield, or the military in any time frame, real or imagined.Figure or the vehicle and the scene has to be 100% unarmed. Has to have at least one civilian vehicle or human, but can have one or more animals or robots as scene accessories.
Would United Nations be allowed? Many UN vehicles are unarmed and can provide a good start to a civilian scene.
I don’t see why not since many UN vehicles are just for observations and the personnel are assigned observers. UN blue berets should be fine, but I’d refrain from UN Blue (kevlar) Helmets.
Could do a Civilian campaign AND a UN campaign. The reason I suggest that is the campaign medal.
Doing a UN campaign medal is super easy because…UN. Also, a bunch of models and decal sheets with UN options were released in the last year or three. Star Decals has a bunch of UN themed decal sheets. (Could even buy some of those as a group, cut em up, and mail em around for cheap decals.)
Making a campaign medal for Civilian is a lot harder because the category is so broad. A funny approach would be to put the graphic from The Office television series on the badge because most people will get that. What is more civilian than a guy with a brief case in silly, generic, bathroom graphics?
The campaign leader gets to decide, of course. Just thinkin ahead.
How about a something purely in resin campaign, or at least the base model? Not intended to deter those who haven’t tackled resin yet, but more to encourage; and perhaps a kickstart to those of us who do have those elusive resin kits in the stash, but as yet, are unbuilt, because, well, because they’re resin!
As an AFV modeller I’m really thinking along those lines; a brief interchange earlier today with Terry1954 reminded me that I’ve a couple of APCs in the stash which I really should be addressing, and such a campaign would certainly provide no small impetus. It doesn’t have to be armour of course, there’s plenty of soft-skinned stuff around I’m sure. And, as I say, it might encourage those how haven’t yet experienced the joys of brittle parts and unforgiving glue(!)
I really like the ideas of separate resin, UN, and civilian campaigns for 2026.
For UN, armored vehicles and human body armor can be introduced, which I highly suggested should not be in the “Civilian campaign.”
As for a “Resin campaign,” a LOT of great models, such as 3D printing, are performed in resin. I almost always buy resin kits now because that is what I want and they make what I want in resin after decades of saying that I won’t buy and build in resin because of various reasons. I also wear PPEs in the form of gloves and a respirator when cutting and sanding resin. Also, I use Gorilla Glue for gluing resin; however, be warned, as Gorilla Glue has no debonder solution.
I kind of threw the idea for this after i posted a cool Gulf War video.
35th Anniversary First Gulf War. A group build highlighting the aircraft and AFVs for the 1990-91 Gulf War for not only the United States, but also the international coalition that liberated Kuwait. Including Great Britain, Italy, Canada, France and the Arab nations of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Kuwait.
January 16, 2026 would be the 35th Anniversary of the launch of ODS.
How about “Angels and/or Demons” = “Good guys and/or bad guys.”
Rules: Can be any good or bad guy, vehicle, figure, robot, starship, or sailing ship, but has to be shown in good taste. Can include fantasy, wargaming, Sci-Fi, superhero/villain, historical, real or fictional.
