3 Steps for Clearing & Cleaning Airbrush Clogs - The Art Workshop

This hardcore airbrush virtuoso really likes the paper points @SSGToms Matt suggested previously. The Art Workshop’s new video featuring the using paper points and explains how he uses them to clean the nozzle and when to do so. He too highly recommends them too.

The video is well worth the six minutes to watch in my opinion. Hits excellent trouble shooting details.

Very cool. I am about to acquire a second, vintage Paasche soon. Im sure this will help!

PS- you must use YouTube directly. The embed will not play! Good video: GO!

Thanks Wade. I’ve been recommending absorbent paper points for years. I’m glad word is getting out more. You NEED these things to clean your airbrush, period. Without them, your nozzle is just a gunk tube. All the guys in my club have them and it has increased their airbrushing success tremendously. They call me the Airbrush Jedi Master because I never have a malfunction. It’s easier to get the planets to align when you have a clean airbrush!

Just bought mine online from Pricenex. $7.43 with shipping and tax. Don’t use US Dental Depot, the same product is $6 but they want to charge an $18 small package fee to ship! Ridiculous!

They’re available on EBay for cheap.

Wow! US Dental won’t be on my list of vendors.

Ordered mine in December last year from Bezos-land…Amazon

Does anyone still use pipe cleaners to clean their airbrush? And if so which ones?

Richard, I use these on my siphon feed Paasche VL & H to clean the color cup and where color cup attaches. I used them on the H’s nozzle and tip too. Will use them to clean the air cap tip with these on the VL but I don’t use them on the nozzle etc.

I don’t use them on the Iwata Micron B.

Pipe cleaners have a wire in the middle that can damage your nozzle and seals. Also, the fuzzies come off and clog up your airbrush body. I would advise against using pipe cleaners in your airbrush.

Yes exactly, I stopped using the pipe cleaners I have because of the wad of fuzzies that were stuck in the airbrush. I was wondering if there was a better alternative. I just bought those paper cleaner things. I’ll try them out today , I’ve got some spraying to do.

There are dedicated airbrush cleaning brush sets that I use. They’re normally about $5 range and are instrumental in maintaining a clean airbrush. I also use real Q-Tips (the real ones don’t shed) soaked in lacquer thinner.

Which air brush cleaning brushes do you recommend Matt? It’s time for an upgrade.
Although I rarely have AB problems, I could use new stuff lol

Speaking of cleaning the airbrush, while expensive, this seems to work well and is different than Tamiya airbrush cleaner. I think has a lot of acetone etc. Best part in my experience is the label & bottle are unique so I don’t mistake it for any else. Sometimes X20A, Tamiya Lacquer thinner & Tamiya Airbrush cleaner are easy to confuse if in close proximity in my opinion.

Any impressions or thoughts?

They’re all identical. Probably all made by the same company in China. But Grex and Iwata both put out good sets.
