A Vietnam survivor: M551 in the Gulf

Hi
When I built the M551 OPFOR I had realised the limitations imposed by the model, so I had pinned many hopes on the Academy version of 2006 but was disappointed! I had started a series of rebuilds but then stopped them to follow more appealing models.
Well, perhaps the time has come to finish this ‘thing’.

I wish you the best of luck for your effort to correct the flaws in this kit and make a respectable model of what has been my favorite AFV since I first discovered it back in the seventies. I made two attempts at the same challenge with first, the Academy re-pop of Tamiya’s mold which came out reasonably well considering my skill level at that time some twenty years ago, the second try with Academy’s re-tool was less successful and I eventually gave up in frustration especially after studying “Toadmans” review and comparison of the model to the 1:1 vehicle, both were scrapped for parts when Tamiya released their “New and Improved” kit which of course is waiting in my stash along with RFM’s version of the -A2. I’ll be following your progress with anticipation, I do recommend Eduard’s PE detail if you haven’t already gotten it, even though it’s for the Tamiya (original) model.

Wow great work on a kit that has loads of problems. Can’t wait to see it painted up!

A little addiction
The m551s used in the early stages operated with many loaded objects.
I don’t like to fill the tanks with crates and rucksacks but this much I think is necessary
fortunately I have many modern US loads left over from other models
