AEV 3 Kodiak 1:35

As is typical in the world of scratchbuilding, a kit is announced just a you’re almost finished building your own version. While the version announced by Border Models is not the same as the one I have here, it would have been a lot easier to convert that nice plastic kit. Nevertheless, I think I may have the honor of presenting you the very first AEV 3 Kodiak in 1:35 scale. The basis for this conversion was an old Leopard 2A4 from Italeri. I opted for this cheap kit for my base, as I wouldn’t be using a lot from it other than the running gear and part of the hull. The other parts came from a 3D model I bought online, and were printed on my Anycubic Photon Mono X. The vehicle depicts one in service with 411 Armoured Engineering Company, Royal Netherlands Army. I hope you like it! I’ll be sure to add an other Kodiak in the standard engineering version once Border releases their kit.

That is hugely impressive; I take my hat off to scratch builders in any case (I struggle cutting plastic card in a straight line) but this is truly noteworthy.

Well done Jasper!

Very nice. Do you have any in-progress pics so we can see how you made it?

Thank you all! HeavyArty, here are some photos I made during construction. I am not a fan of taking in progress pictures, so this is all I have!

Here you can see the super structure being printed. Lots of processing to be done after the print is complete!

An overview of the project in an earlier stage. After this photo was taken I found out that some of my details were incorrect, so I corrected them.

Wow Jasper! I am blown away! Outstanding scratchbuilding everywhere. Incredible details. Impeccable weathering. No model company could equal this out of a box. This is truly a masterpiece and you should be very proud of this build.

Masterfully done! This is one helluva scratchbuild that’s for sure. I have to compliment the painting and weathering too- and the base is also great for presenting the model.

Incredible job all around!

Great job for a truly original model which will remain so even if Border release theirs.

Thank you all for the kind words!

This is really an impressive build, Jasper! As you’ve made most parts by yourself, you can really be proud of it. Scratchbuilding is a different level to just glueing plastic parts together like I do. Kudos! :+1:

Those 3d printer thingamabobs look really useful, wish I could use one. Card stock and rods will have to stay my thing. But that Kodiak is a thing of beauty, love the plough as well. Is that printed also?
