Aftermarket Tracks for Takom’s M60A3 and M48A5 kits?

As a retired US Army Tanker, I’m building a couple of the Takom’s M60A3 and M48A5 kits. To be honest, I’m just getting back into model building and the included tracks for these kits are way above my skill level and the available time to build them. So, is their any after market track kit(s) or the older style rubber band type tracks that will fit these two kits?

Thanks for any advice!!

ET Model make two 3D sets.

Unfortunately, there are no rubber-band style AM track for them that I know about. There are the AFV Club individual link T-142 tracks for them though. They pretty much snap together and you press-fit the end connectors.

While there are no rubber band aftermarket tracks, Tamiya did both types in their kits. Accuracy issues aside, you might be able to snag some off Ebay. Sometimes sellers sell the tracks seperately.

The bustle rack on the A3 will make those tracks seem like a cake walk!
But take your time and keep rolling out the vertical brass and it will come out great, have patience!

Unless things have changed with later releases, both my Takom 1/35 M60A1 (#2132) and M60A3 w/M9 Dozer (#2137) came with pretty decent one-piece ‘rubber’ tracks. They are very sturdily joined by a steel pin. No doubt some guys have replaced theirs with indie-tracks, so you might want to ask around and acquire their originals. As for me - I’m with you regarding the one piece or link-and-length tracks.

I used this set on my Tamiya M60A1 and they work like a charm.

Hey Bergun!

I’ve actually got a bunch of sets of the exact track type you need as a rubber band track. I’ve got 3 AFV Club sets and 1 Takom set, they both should fit the M60A3, but you might need to cut the tracks a bit to fit it on the M48A5 (they might fit more of less the same though, so you probably won’t have to do anything). I could totally send you two sets of AFV club rubber band tracks for the m48 just in case.

But If you can just pay for postage I would be entirely happy to help!

Edit, I just realized that I wasn’t so clear:

If you’d be fine with paying for postage I’ll send you one set of Takom tracks, two sets of AFV Club tracks, and two sets of the little metal rods that you need to connect the Takom and Afv Club track together (couldn’t find the third set of rods but you should be good)

I actually loved working on the Takom workable tracks - yeah I know, there might be something wrong with me. On the other hand I hated working on Bronco’s track for the M48 and it’s built in a very similar way, but there are differences. What helps a lot is that Takom gives you their jig to line up the track shoe halves, then you put in the pins without even cutting them out of the sprue - they already habe the right spacing on the sprue, and then you put in the inner halves of the track shoes. Now the dealbreaker here is to use solvent type glue BUT to use it very sparingly - for this I took an old detail painting brush and was applying a tiny amount of glue on one half of the track shoe and just then joining the halves together. The plastic was ticky, but the glue wasn’t flowing anymore when I joined the halves - or to put it differently there was so little glue there that one could wonder if it’s going to work at all - byt 99% of the time it did, so that left me with like 5 places on both runs together that I had to re-do after testing the tracks. And they stayed workable!

Thanks for reading, good luck with your projects and have a nice day

'Love the MASSTER finish Kevin; a very nice looking model and I particularly like the restrained weathering (an antenna wouldn’t hurt but that’s just me). Any chance of a few more pics?

If you have the Patience for Individual Track Links(that don’t have up to five pieces each) then AFV sounds like the way to go.

Thank you, Boots. I don’t want to take away from the original thread, but I did add an antenna when I was finishing up. And I am with Mr. J Johnson - the real test of building these kits is that darn turret basket. I’ve never gotten it right as you can see here!

Good to see (the antenna that is); I feel your pain, and I have an M60A1 somewhere in the stash but have invested in a 3D print stowage basket from FC Modeltrend which looks like it will do the job. Just a thought; I don’t recall it being crushingly expensive, anyway, better than wrestling with etched bloody brass perhaps.

Keep up the good work.

I had no major issues with the turret basket when I did the Takom USMC M60A1 Dozer w/ERA kit. It was a little fiddly, but not too bad.
