I need to save up some money for these. They would certainly be time savers.
I’ll have to look at picking up a black. Got a couple of French tanks with that black border cammo that these would make quick work of.
To be honest, for a thin black line like that, the Playmarker might be better, just because of the difference in the tips. The Playmarker tips seem a bit easier to use for doing very thin lines due to their flexibility.
Haven’t come across that brand. Will have to see if they’re available over here.
They are by AK as well; see the Youtube link I posted above. They haven’t been released yet, but I expect they should be within about a month. The primary difference between the Real Colors markers and the Playmarker line (other then the colors themselves) is the tip - the Real Colors tips are “solid” whereas the Playmarker tips are flexible, almost like a paintbrush but with the very tip a solid point.
I thought about the AK Paint Markers for that same purpose myself. I used a Sharpie extra fine tip enamel paint pen for this project and that worked well enough. Although the Sharpie paint pens are gloss…
Ah right, I thought it might be a different manufacturer. Lots around. I’ll keep my eyes open. Thanks
A company called Decotime also do Alcohol based paint pens with two sizes of tip on each. I have purchased a box of 100 colours for £35 from a B&M Store but they can be bought in range of quantities.
Let us know how the Decotime work? I don’t think they are available in Canada.
Any update on any of the other paint markers besides AK Real Color?
The Decotime work, but the colours take more than one application.
There are Gunze paint markers also available. I have a few of those and primarily use them for striping projects. Your primary colors are available, along with some other assorted colors, some quote bright, and a few that work for military type uses…
I picked up this set at work a month or two ago… along with some other goodies
Thanks for the replies @CMOT @Stikpusher.
The makeup sets from Tamiya I have become a huge fan of for weathering, especially figures seem to work well with them and I confess to having got some makeup sets from China due to low price and they work just as well.
If AK Interactive can make a “Real Color Flesh Marker Set” with multiple skin tones and shades, and with wide and thin marker tips, that would really help.
I don’t know how one can blend the marker paint, but as a smooth base coat, a “Flesh Color Marker Set” should ease the problem of having too thick or thin, lumpy and bumpy flesh base paint.
Absolutely brilliant. I hope AK is listening
As I noted in a post above, AK is releasing another series of markers soon geared towards gamers called Playmarkers. These are essentially the same as Real Colors Markers, but with softer tips (that I like better, seems easier for doing fine details). There will be a Flesh Set, with 5 different flesh tones.
@jfeenstra Way cool on the Flesh Set with five different flesh tones. I do hope for perhaps more, but five is better than just one.
Great for:
- Straps
- Panel lines
- Seals
- Roadwheel rubber
- Molded grilles and openings
- Muzzles
- You name it, I think it could be done with with these.
AK Markers are great for camouflage patterns too as they’re cleaner and leave little to no mess.
I painted the Multicam camouflage and this 1/16 kitbash conversion figure almost entirely with AK markers. It took me just a couple of hours whereas with a brush it would have taken me days of getting the paint bottles, squirting out the paint onto a pallet, dipping the brush in the correct color, carefully brushing on the dots and swatches, cleaning the brush, dipping the brush in another color, paint, rinse, repeat, and repeat, and repeat and repeat.
The gun was spraypainted black.
