That’s the airfield fuel truck, which was used along with a string of trailers! But the other type (750gal for use on roads) didn’t - instead that area was where the tap was.
Let’s agree to “when there’s no pintle, the hooks come into play”, ok?
And for those hooks, please look at the pics from the David Doyle CCKW “Historical Reference” volume, p.45:
To my eyes, the things have a triangular base plate that is mounted with three bolts in its corners, and the hooks are bent away from the base plate centerline, which at the rear is horizontal.
And in the following photo (p.43), the base plates are fixed with the centerline pointing inward, while the hooks bend parallel to the chassis rails:
So, this seems to prove that rear and front hooks “are the same exact part”, which makes me think we really need After Market bent parts for our models.
I should have paid more attention to this part of your sentence…
Here’s another view of the hook

OK then - the hooks do look “handed” left & right. Should be easy to CAD.
Oh, and meant to add that the hooks aren’t for towing - they are for pulling the truck out if it gets stuck. To tow a trailer it needs a pintle, and inboard of the bumperettes there are small eye-bolts for the trailer safety chains.
Might break out some callipers to measure a hook…
A quick bit of CAD work gives me this:
Obviously I’ll mirror it. Now I have to decide how to offer it - I might put it on 3dptrain.com as a set of maybe ten?
I would be down for that as I need some.
Same here.
I’ll take a set also. Thank you!
I’ve uploaded the hooks, as well as a set of hubs to use Panzer Art wheels on Italeri CCKWs, but it takes a couple days to get them checked and approved for sale. (3dptrain.com is a small firm, so only one guy to check the models…)
BTW the hooks come in a set of 12, 6 left, 6 right…
While you’re in the flow, Tom: Studebaker’s US-6 series trucks have bent hooks, too, and ICM have just issued a Studer gasoline tanker, so…
The things grow up from much narrower triangular bases that mount with only two bolts on their centerline. The two pics are excerpts from Tankograd’s Technical Manual Series #6037, p.38.
Hope you lilke the idea,
Peter
Wonderful, Henri Pierre, thank you!
You’re welcome, Peter !
On this one the shape is different…

To me, these look very much like what I know from Dodge WC trucks: no triangular base, going straight up, no lateral bend (photo fromWings & Wheels “Beep in detail”, p.65). And as this is obviously showing a modern restoration project, I think we don’t see the original parts here.

So many hooks!
Hook a brother up with multiple options.
Yeah, many hooks - but think positive: AFV Club’s (ex Skybow) Dodge hooks are correct OTB!
