The Heller CCKW 353 does have the drawer (part 83).

I had a look in the old manual:

For some info - first on tow hooks:

It seems tow hooks on the rear, only occur on tankers -

Next, regarding frames and the use of blocks:

Interesting to see this includes sleepers on top of the frame rails, and filler blocks within to keep them from collapsing - and for tanker trucks:

The sleeper on top of the rail is shorter on the tanker, than on the cargo - I think the fill block is omitted on the section on the right for clarity, so you can see the locating stud -

Maybe useful info - lots more to model if you wish! some skinny basswood and metal u-bolts and pins would do the trick

Cheers

Good information Nick.

I was missing or lost some small bits on top of the water tank so I have replaced with some different size rods. Finished the spare tire carrier.

General setup look.

At the risk of appearing obnoxious: The Italeri spare tire carrier isn’t quite correct.
It had only one movable lateral clamp with a perforated depression and fixing rod - the clamp on the passenger side was stationary and didn’t have that indentation, as the illustration from the Doyle CCKW book shows:

(And I know there are pics of the Italeri version in that same book, but they appear to be of very early / prototype versions.)

Peter all good information. You’re not wrong and presenting information and letting the modeler decide what to do helps everyone.

The good news is that the carrier is not glued in and I can attempt to fix it.

More parts installed and it appears to sit on all 6 tires.

The transmission is giving me fits but I think is mostly user error. Used similar size tubing and rod to make the first shaft.

The standard CCKW hooks have been approved! CCKW Tow Hooks – 3Dp Train

They also approved my hubs for mounting Panzer Art wheels on Italeri trucks: PanzerArt 1:35 wheel adaptors for Italeri CCKW – 3Dp Train

Just waiting on approval of the Studebaker hooks now…

Outstanding. I will wait for the Stude hooks before ordering.

Any thoughts on adding the tire carrier to the print list?

You mean the single upright one behind the cab? I did do one for SW, so I can dig that out and look at uploading it.

Yes, that one. I think I have still have one from shapeways but not sure where.

This version is/was out there too:

The basic content is the same as above, but seems less thorough, with fewer figures. I didn’t use this as a reference in the previous post because it does not include a reference to Studebaker water or fuel tankers - just cargo and dumps.

I’ve uploaded the single wheel holder to 3dptrain.com - it may take a few days to get approved before it appears for sale!

Great news, thanks. Looks like they are going to show so it might be a little longer between review to order and printing which is fine. I will order a few of each.

So I have this straight, the water truck and/or any truck without a tow pintle probably has the hooks in the rear.

Probably any truck without a pintle - the hooks provide somewhere to pass the eye of the tow cable. So far the only trucks I’ve seen that need them are the 750gal fuel truck and some of the fire engines, but maybe the tractor units too?

Post 193 above shows that water tankers were hookers, too.
