Allied trucks

Showing my discovery of these realistically beautiful base mats distributed by MIG elsewhere on this site. (Made by Model Scene.)

So here is an Allied White 666 truck converted to a semi-tractor.

Just bumping up this thread with a small shot in the arm.

Discovered this while researching WWII welding trailers, which is what that last color photo on the right is. The arc welder is made by Hobart.

Hi folks, this forum’s been quiet too long, so here’s a bit of uplifting news! With the demise of Shapeways I have been experimenting with another service called 3dptrain.com, based in the US. While the name says ā€œtrainā€ they are happy to include military stuff too, and I tested the waters with my banjo axle conversion set for the Tamiya 35218 kit. Not sure how this all will go, but at least I’m trying to get it out there again! Shipping is extra, added at checkout, and I have no idea what it would be ā€œoverseasā€ from the US to elsewhere…

Interesting that it is sold out already. Congrats.

Yeah, I’m not sure what that means as none have been sold yet! I’m new to them, and still learning the quirks of their website, so watch this space…

I love truck models, especially WWII truck models, but very, very few come with the bed canvas that’s usually portrayed on the box, and there isn’t any resin or printed options out there, and at my age with crappy eyes, I just don’t want to scratch build them

Should be available now.

Indeed canvas is a gap in the market! The Heller CCKW had some, but it’s fairly crude. The AM market hasn’t necessarily stepped up…

Not WWII Allied, but the Italeri M923/M925 and AFV Club’s M54A2 trucks come with bed canvas. They are OK, but not the best either.

Well that should not be the case anymore as I placed an order. According to their FAQ 7-14 days for print and shipping. :stopwatch:

I think with Shapeways going away, times will get longer for them and everyone else that tries to fill the vacuum.

OK, I don’t have much in the way of truck models, but I did a little comparing of what I do have.
I don’t have the Tamiya or Italeri kits for a side by side match up, but:
The Heller GMC CCKW trucks come with a molded canvas. There is not much detail on it.
The AFV Club M35A2 comes with a molded canvas that is slightly larger than the Heller one, and it has more detail.
The Monogram 2 1/2 ton ā€œeager beaverā€ has a canvas that is slightly larger than the AFV one, with more detail. I think the Monogram one looks the best.
How well any of these will fit other cargo beds is unknown to me.
Royal Model makes a resin canvas set for the CCKW. It looks nice, but is pricy.
Royal Model 1/35 Canvas Cover for GMC CCKW US 2½ Ton 6x6 Cargo Truck WWII 624 | eBay
I don’t know what kit(s) this fits.
There was also a resin set by Master Productions for the Tamiya kit:
Canvas for Tamiya Truck CCKW 353 6X6 Cargo, Masters Productions MP35052 (scalemates.com)
It does not seem to be currently available.

Something I finished a while back. Excuse the dust!

I left the back off because that winch needs to be seen. So I did a field job and cut it off behind the driver. Then the ground crew welded on a few rough panels. I still haven’t finished the cable.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this in 1/48

I did offer them in 1:48 at ShapeWas, so I’ll have to dig out the file for 3dptrain.com. It will fit either of the two Tamiya kits.

Can’t vouch for the quality/accuracy though…

For a start it’s missing the window flaps at each end…

Received an email that item has been printed and shipped. :+1:

So far so good.

Hope it’s working on your end too Tom as a solution.

Hi Ryan, I just got an email saying the order was fulfilled! As yours is the very first for me with them, can I ask you to post some pics? And check it is the right size - the axle ends should be the same length as the Tamiya kit axles.

Looking forward to seeing it! (I’ve uploaded the Italeri version and the 1:48 Tamiya one too, so they should become available to buy as soon as they get approved.)

It was just shipped, I should know tomorrow when it might arrive as I can’t find any information on where they might be located and/or shipped from to guess on a timeframe. Probably this weekend.

When it arrives I will take photos and compare. I have a shapeways print that I need to find to add into the mix.
