Allied trucks

Thanks! And I believe they are in Tennessee, but may be wrong…

If that is the case, then probably Wednesday or Thursday delivery.

USPS says Thursday and coming from TN.

That might, MIGHT, be how modern synthetic materials hang but that it not how WWII canvas would hang. Original canvas was oiled, heavy gauge and somewhat stiff. It would just never look like that with all those multiple concentric folds and wrinkles.

Both my photos from a Patton Museum Reenactment; Ft. Knox, KY.

The stress lines on the sides exhibits itself in the form of straight diagonals and the sag between the support bows on top is also very important in creating realistic looking canvas.

Tom,

The parts arrived today.

Did find my shapeways order of the same set.

Compared to the Tamiya kit. My ruler said 47mm for the printed and 47.5 mm or less for the Tamiya part.

Shapeways didn’t itemize cost of that order but $49 for this, Dukw suspension and shipping. 3Dp Train total was $13.36.

Overall I think it’s a viable replacement for shapeways on this end. I think any future designs could possibly have a different layout than done with older prints but I do get if this system works.

Thanks Ryan - good to see it looks fine. The layout is an artefact of SW’s wacky pricing rules. The old designs that I’m uploading first will be the same as they were at SW, but new designs will be less “packed”. The same set was double the price at SW!

Sounds great. Don’t know if you know what sold the most at shapeways or your schedule about adding more but I think the semi set, tire carrier and rail wheels would be good additions for truck fans. Both Dukw sets would also be good.

@barkingdigger I did a little work on a existing truck I got somewhere along the line. Not sure of the issue, material or operator maybe a combination but when removing the new print I broke the sway bar. (Terminology?)

Armed with this knowledge the Shapeways sway bar was removed easier. I think for that part the Shapeways material is better thinness and stresses.

On newer designs I would have a smaller attachment point on to the axles if possible.

Only front axle, transfer case and axle are glued in. Does the setup look correct?

For the rear, I think I need to remove the braces on the inner frame?

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the report! That steering linkage is indeed a tad fragile - I’d do it differently these days. The big sprues are a legacy of SW insisting on 2mm diameter - again I’d prefer to go much thinner!

The two torque arms on the rear axles are replaced by the ones in the set, so they need to come off. As for your set-up, the steering link should be at the rear of the axle, not the front. The hump in the bar is for clearance for the drive shaft…

Thanks Tom. I had assumed it was SW deal.

Thanks also for the kit information. Better to ask first to confirm before chopping and gluing. :+1::+1:

This is the Italeri version, but it shows the steering link and drive shaft:

I have those two items worked out. Still haven’t glued hubs in so I still have time to work on matching angles.

Here is the process of the rear. That 2mm support to clean out for the cylinder that goes on the post in the middle axle is bit of pain. Press fit and gravity holding it together for now.

That’s looking good! (And yes that pillow block could have had a better sprue attachment - another thing to fix!)

Axles glued in.

Drive shafts next.

Hey Ryan so THIS is where you hang out, I was wondering  I got RSI scrolling up & down this thread & lost the will to live, pray enlighten me what exactly are you building, an Me262? No OK I can see it has 6 wheels so it’s a truck/duck/f*** yeah I must have missed something

It’s not that where I am hanging out but seemed like the best place to show those work. Been looking at other threads. It is the Tamiya 1/35 CCKW with different axles. Instead of a regular truck bed, I will turn it into a water truck.
I should post elsewhere also I guess. Thanks for checking it out.

You can always add it to the Convoy! pt2 campaign…
