Up on a pole for another look as the final decals get a clear coat.

Starting some pin wash using MIGs enamel panel line wash. Need to tone this down with more cotton bud Q-tips. Trying to keep it subtle.

Over sprayed with Testor’s Dullcote and about to look at the canopy unmasking. Getting closer.

Other than the base, the little aiming sight, and the aerial wire…I feel I am about done. So very close. When you are breaking more than you are fixing then it may be time to quit. This is where my impression of AG633 stands today and I am satisfied.

This was meant to be a learning exercise and I learned a lot.

Thank you Dan. You are very kind! There are so many things to do differently. I have hung the framed color photo poster of AG633 on my wall for years but had no idea what I was really looking at until building this kit. Love our hobby when it enhances understanding of the related history.

May 2024 Okay. Let us try this again. Now that there are some reference material collected and paint colors selected, a more detailed effort is in order. So much more to learn. My intent is to build a second model of AG633 sitting on the ground gear down, flaps up, canopy closed.

but like this…

Starting with the similar 1/48 scale Accurate Miniatures Allison engine Mustang kit. Adding some additional cockpit details. Trim tab wheels from punched disks, lead wire cable runs. Based on references added with some old Archer data plate decals.

Tackling first attempt at a Sutton harness soon. The “EASY SOLUTION” aftermarket offering looks excellent in the package.

Even shows the release pin as part of the photoetch.

Lots of great guidance and references on the seat and belts from folks like Colin Ford. Similar harness set up for seats used in early Spitfires, P-40 Kittyhawk as Mustangs. BRITMODELER,COM has an excellent blog titled “Seat harness in RAF P-51 Mustang I” and is a great reference.

Other items continue in parallel. The instrument panel is basically stock straight out of the box with the kit decal and some dry brushing.

Goal is to match this one. The canopy will be closed to mask issues, but perhaps in the future, more could be done.

This wing will be modified using the resin conversion kit from Ultracast
1/48 RAF / RCAF Mustang I Conversion Product # 48031 for Accurate Miniatures kit #3410.

Just lots of hacking away so far. I did sand and fill in the starboard under wing signal lights. Color signal wing lamps not present for AG633.

The armor plate is made from styrene sheet per these on line instructions. Please note this is not my design and I cannot take credit for others good work. I believe this effort is also Colin Ford, but please correct me if not?

Still trying to steady my hand enough to complete a representation of the 1/48 scale Sutton harness.

Wouldn’t a resin seat with molded on seat belts do the job?

Hi Dan! Thank you for following. Yes! I did look at that. Like this one

Ultracast 48257 P-40 - Tomahawk Early Square Back Export Seat with British Sutton Harness suitable for early war RAF, RAAF, SAAF Tomahawks

I guess just I liked the challenge to see if I could make it work. This has been a learning process and hope I can see some actual similar Sutton harness seats at EAA Oskhosh next month. Always collecting photos.
