I am planning a future build of a late French Hotchkiss M201 and have a question. In the below pic, it looks like a NATO slave cable receptacle under the right front fender, right near the batteries. Am I seeing it right? Can anyone confirm that is what is there?
It looks like you’re right…
But I’ve yet to find another picture showing this very setup. The receptacle is not mentioned in the available technical manuals I’ve seen…I found nothing on the dedicated M201 website as well.

Thanks. Yup, I haven’t seen any other pics or anything about them on any other sites either. There is one that lists every minute difference between the Willys MB, Ford GPW, and M201 and it doesn’t mention them either.

I think I will leave it off mine then.
Maybe it has been fitted by the civilian owner (according to the licence plate, we’re are living in the same departement - Rhone
)

That is what I deduced as well. Also, why I posted to see if anyone else (you really) had anything else on it. Thanks again.
Easy solution, then: go over to him and ask ![]()
Another question for our Francophiles as I start a Hotchkiss M201 build (a new thread and pics to come soon).
How common was the Hotchkiss M201 with the roll bar? I have seen a few pics and assume it was a very late feature.
Also, were the turn signals more common in clear or orange. Both ways keep showing up as well.
There were two versions of the roll bar
A 4-point one
And a 6-point one
The first 4-point roll bars were installed in 1987 on 7e régiment de chasseurs M201s. “Large number” of M201s were later fitted with them.
Thanks for the info and it worked out well. I went with the 4-point.
The six-point one looks like it’s simply the four-point model with two extra bars added?
I guess so…
