Just found some at PlazaJapan. No too expensive either, certainly comparable in price to etch sets and probably a bit easier to work with.
I’ve added to my wishlist list so next time I put in an order I’ll add a set to my basket.
Would place it now but we’re on holiday soon and it’ll likely arrive when I’m away.
Not as productive today as I hoped. Ended up having to do some work in the garden.
Got the wing joins cleaned up. Just a spot of Mr Surfacer needed in a couple of places.
Great work! It’s much better than mine.
Thanks.
Slow work the last couple of days. Just getting the wing landing lights sorted out. Have found fitting the cockpit parts a bit bit tricky. There’s not really much for the instrument panel and seat/armour plate to hang onto to. Slightest bit out of alignment and the fuselage halves don’t want to go together.
Got the fuselage together today. The instrument panel and V shaped frame in the middle did need some trimming to get it to close up.
I think the seat has a bit of a lean to one side, but I’ll be closing up the canopy so shouldn’t be noticeable.
Fit of the wings is superb. No gaps at all!
Before fitting the wings I remembered I needed to cut out the wingtip nav lights ready for the clear parts. Needed care and constant testing of the parts, but all went well.
Wings fitted. Slight gap in a couple of spots near the leading edge, but think they might be me sanding a bit too much off when cleaning up the parts. Easy to fix though.
And prop assembled. You get a choice of De Havilland or Rotol props with the appropriate spinners. So some useful bits for the spares box.
Did a little work on the wing join earlier. Will have to leave it for a week as we’re away on holiday.
Will get back to it soon.
Thanks for following.
Nearly two weeks since I last did any work on the Hurricane. Got sometime today. So tidied up the join at the wing root, got the tailplane, rudder and Vokes filter fitted.
All going well should be ready for some paint soon.
Just ordered another Mk.I and a IIb to do in other Mediterranean schemes from the decal stash. My wallets hoping Arma Hurricanes are not going to become a new addiction!
Nothing terribly exciting or interesting today. Just getting bits and pieces ready for paint.
Did get the canopy masks applied. Used Peewits set. They fit quite well, but I did find the ones across the top canopy a bit long. I cut these in the middle and overlapped at the join. I did make double sure I used the right ones for the closed canopy. The other set is slightly longer for the open canopy option. That parts a bit bigger to fit over the fuselage better.
Canopy in place.
Also added the rudder control cables from some thin plastic rod. I tried fine wire and elastic thread, but I couldn’t get either to stay in place or go where I wanted. The plastic went on much easier.
Odd that they missed the line as this is usually moulded on. Maybe it’s an etch part on the ‘Expert Set’ release?
All caught up and following with interest, Stephen… great progress so far ![]()
Thanks.
It’s a really good little kit.
I got some primer down today. Especially on the lower side. Need to get a good solid coat of white under the right hand side.
Paint is progressing nicely. Sprayed the white side earlier in the week. Masked and then got the black side down today. Fingers crossed it’s a sharp line with no bleeds!
Should be able to get the middle stone down tomorrow.
Quick update for all following the build.
It’s been put on hold for a little while while I tried to get an F-4 finished up for the Phantom campaign. That’s gone a lot slower than hoped as I’ve been given other things to do over the last few weekends. So, only managed a few short moments. Plus, the weather has been very wet and windy recently and as I do all my airbrushing outside, it’s put a block on getting the final coats down on the Hurricane. Hoping to get chance next weekend.
Forgot to take photos last week, but did get the middlestone down. I used Humbrols new acrylic and it went down quite well, even though I did overthin it a little!
Was hoping to get outside to spray the dark earth, but the weather’s been a bit wet and windy! Can’t wait to get my hobby room/man cave back when we shove stuff back in the loft.
Not just at your place, Stephen! Also over here on the continent ![]()
Good progress so far! ![]()
Hopefully it’s gone by now.
The west coast got it far worse that here. Fingers crossed there won’t be another for a while.
Got the dark earth down when I got in from work. Did the airbrushing in the kitchen to avoid the cold and damp weather and better light. Other half doesn’t know. Mums the word.
Will get some shots when it’s dry and all the masks are removed.
