On armor I do all my camo freehand; I like to pretend I am a tiny little man with a spray gun while I do it, imagining how I would swing my little arm or what I could reach at any given time.
@brekinapez thats a good method, I’ve used stencils in the past and they work pretty well but i finally figured out how to get my airbrush to cooperate and what needle does what best that’s why i think this one looks better then some of my
Previous ones.
That’s how we all get better, improving on each new model we do, improving our work from the last one.
Very nice freehand camo job there!
Which Brand/colour did you use for the green?
It’s ammo migs olivegrun pt.2
Great, thanks. It certainly looks the part.
@Whitewolf yeah I’m slowly learning how to thin and mix ammo paints, it’s taken a few years and some heartache but it’s finally coming out how it should.
Not 100% complete with painting, i am currently waiting on my zimmerit base color to do zimmerit chipping with but here is my progress so far. For the chipping effects on this kit i used the sponge method, i took a piece of sponge and cut it to an off shape and dabbed it in paint. My chipping colors are ammo migs dark track, dunkagelb, oluvgrun, and ak interactives red oxide. I also brushed some red oxide onto a few parts of the tank, my thinking is that the exhaust would get paint to fall off and expose the red oxide hull. Also the rear door on the turret i redid with some various red oxide and dark track effects to give it a worn look.
Well my zimmerit ochre color came today and i had some fun with it. I also went back and added some more chipping effect to places where the zimmerit has come off. In places where the zimmerit has holes or is missing and is showing the oxide i coated the surrounding existing zimmerit with the ochre paste to show it flaking. Hope you guys like this project, next up will be filter and washes.
I think I’m calling this baby done, i completed my washes and oil painting this evening and i have to say i am really pleased with it. I bought a masters touch 12 pack of oil paints for 9.99 from hobby lobby and used the ivory black, burnt umber, lemon yellow and titanium white for my oil coloring. I made washes using ivory black and burnt umber with naphtha thinner and was able to get a dirty zimmerit effect with them. I used black and burnt umber oils to do a dark shading on the road wheels, and used ammo migs track wash for the tracks. I hope y’all enjoy my final product, i have a tank commander from alpine miniatures on the way to give it a little life.
Looks great, once the oil paints dry, are you going to give it a dull coat, or satin to knock down the glossy sheen?
@Floridabucco yeah i did that prior to the picture i think i had a bad angle on the camera. Here’s it is directly under the light unfortunately my apt had poor lighting at times. I currently use lucky varnish from ammo Mig do you have a satin that you’d recommend?
@Floridabucco gave it one more round of Matt varnish from ammo mug and i think it fixed what you were talking about.
Great effort and outstanding results. You’re learning very fast! Your effects really look fantastic.
@SSGToms thank you, i feel like I’ve gotten a lot better in the past two years. Not gonna lie i really like doing zimmerit cause it seems to cut down on some of the weathering on the hull and turret.
Looks great, really knocked down the shine.
@Floridabucco i think the shine came back when i did one last wash on the zimmerit, thanks for catching that. Next up is the Willy’s jeep and hopefully some figures by the end of the week. Then I’ll start building the part of the bridge span.
Great finish on your Königstiger! The washes really brought out all of the details.
@Stikpusher thank you, i just started the Willy’s and am now brain storming for how i want to make this bridge section.
