Into the dustbin. I used Masking fluid from Tamiya. The nastiness doesn’t want to come off like in the YT videos. It got into all the crevices. It is impossible to remove it sensibly. I am terribly annoyed.
F…K f…K f…K
Oh no Piotr! This is disastrous! Sh!t! This is also the only time I’ve ever seen a Tamiya product fail. Try a bath in Windex (window cleaner with ammonia), then if that doesn’t work, a bath in lacquer thinner is a last resort. Don’t throw it out. You’ve come too far and it was coming beautifully.
I am furious. I’m not going to salvage it because the result is not certain and the job will only piss me off more. I have ordered another copy with delivery in January. I’m going to start again.
This is what a possible solution
Today another Bushmaster arrived (the previous one is already in the dustbin). I intend not to spoil the camouflage. This time version with „CROWS”
does he do just parts like the winch etc?
would like to do an NZ5.5 Bushmaster but ours have some differences. main one being all of our have front doors both sides and they all have what Aussie call the Engineer/Ambulance rear door that is wider and hinged the other side. only some of the Aussie ones have a door at the front on drivers side only.
got a look through them on Cambrai day while on base
i like how they built the steps into the fuel cell etc
took this pic then asked if we were aloud to and they said no (too late LOL) and did not take pics of the radios etc.
and there are pics online anyway
this was one of the first type to arrive that went to the SAS and was more of a standard configuration with no side doors.
they even had the Aussie cam covers on the seats LOL
i have one of the Scalemates kits which i managed to pickup from a guy over in Aus that new where some were hiding in a basement and will do it as one of the SAS ones.
there is a guy here 3D printing kiwi ones but they are mostly one piece
redo that other one as a damaged wagon maybe?
Thanks for pointing out the differences of the later versions (variations) of the Bushmaster, I hadn’t noticed the steps in the fuel cell until you mentioned it. Can you show a side by side comparison of the rear door? Anything that might help retrofit the old Show Case Model would be appreciated and thanks for the photos as well.
With the help of Piotr I inquired about purchasing the newer 3D kit. The price for the kit is excellent but shipping to Canada, exchange rates etc just put it out of reach for me (for now), but I do have the Show Case model.

I just re-found a thread from 2008 where a group of us tried to scratch build a Bushmaster with plastic card.
Bummer for sure man but can’t you at least blow it up with fire crackers??
… and take pictures/vid to post here for us to see
Yeah what he said, something like this…
Last year my wife told me “Hey guess what, we (Australia) are giving the Ukraine a whole bunch of our Bushwhackers!”
Took me a minute…
standard back door, right side hinged
Aussie Bushie with wide door for Ambulance/ Engineers etc left side Hinged - this also has extra armour added
that version also has a front door on drivers side only
Kiwi one is the same door. i think NZ went with that as a bit wider doorway make egress easier with all your gear on
other change made was the headights for some reason they went to having the indicators outside the headlights
I’m glad NZ chose to go with these as Aussie have shown they work well especially with the crew protection and far superior to the Pinzgauer they are replacing. they are also getting some Jackals and Coyote’s from Supacat
the Minister of Defence we had at the time they looked at them is ex Army so was a good person to have in place
they struggled a bit with these in our terrain
they have also not long announced they will be purchasing different variants of the Spanish made URO VAMTAC
Thanks for the photos and the comparisons. I see the badge Panhard on your first photo are these Bushmasters still being made in Australia by Thales? The wide door makes sense, I wonder if this has become the new standard way to manufacture or if these are custom built for NZ?
It is great to see that the Bushmaster is still soldiering on.
The model looks great.
the one in the first pic was one of the trial ones that came in for the SAS and was more of a standard version but the green ones were made for NZ by Thales as far as i know and were built to our specs - designated the NZ5.5 Bushmaster
Thanks for the clarification. I don’t want to take over this thread, it is for Piotr’s Bushmaster build, perhaps we should start another topic to share the evolution of the Bushmaster, would that be more appropriate?
