AFV Club announced their new release.
A most welcome announcement! Good that I have Tamiya´s HMMWV kit in my stash.![]()
I also have the Tamiya offering but I think there will be more to add, both exterior and interior, if building a Humvee Avenger.
Mario
Now I wonder if the ROC Army uses the Avenger for stationary defense?
This might work better with one of the newer cargo Hummers from ICM for a Desart Storm version. I wonder: who still uses this system in 2025?
Interesting, a quick check and there was/is two HMMWV versions “M998 HMMWV Avenger and M1097 Heavy HMMWV Avenger”
As for the static version one was mounted on the helicopter flight deck of a Mistral amphibious assault ship in 2017 to give an ad-hoc air defence. This was a ship built by the French for Russia but due to sanctions not sold to them nor fitted with the intended air defence system, the ship was later sold to Egypt.
Thank you! Great photo. Now to get an ICM Hummer and await the AFV Club release.
US Army
Really? I had thought the US no longer fielded the system. Thanks for de-confusing me. And for the photo/reference.
Now I won’t have to correct and improve the turret on my ESCI Avenger Humvee…. I can just swap this out.
I see Avengers each year when I am near Ansbach barracks.
So I guess you’ll get a nice turret on a “not-so-nice” (understatement here) chassis… ![]()
H.P.
This is a nice addition. I’m waiting to see if/how much nicer this is than the Italeri version.
Apart from all the other issues with the ESCI-kit …
The ESCI hood looks like it was inspired by a VW Beetle.
Maybe this with the ICM HUMWV. It might work out.
The issue with the HMMWV ICM is not that simple. The M1097/M998 versions both seem to have metal ‘X’ doors. The ICM set has soft ones. Another issue is the roof and rear wall of the cabin, which need to be modified.
true but the major issues with the older HUMWV is the front end so maybe kit bash the Avenger specific parts to the ICM kit of one of the amazing CAD gentlemen on this site will hear our pleas and take pity.
Mix of some humvee kits maybe, with Avenger AFV Club.

The US Marine Corps retired their “Avengers” in favor of the JLTV MADIS, so you’re half-correct that the US no longer fields the HMMWV “Avenger.” The US Army still does.
Now, however, at AUSA 2025, they have new (lightweight) weapons turrets that combine APKWS II 2.75-inch rocket pods, 30mm autocannon, and a four-missile Stinger pod for anti-drone and anti-aircraft air defense, but the US military has yet to acquire any since they’re so new.
“The USMC MADIS JLTV is a mobile air defense system for the U.S. Marine Corps, consisting of two Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) that fight as a pair to counter threats like drones. One vehicle, the MADIS Mk1, is equipped with Stinger missiles and a 30mm cannon to neutralize aerial threats, while the other, the MADIS Mk2, provides radar, command and control, and counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) capabilities. The system integrates sensors, weapons, and electronic warfare to provide a complete air defense kill chain against threats like drones.
System breakdown
MADIS Mk1:
The primary anti-air weapon vehicle, equipped with Stingers and a 30mm cannon to defeat threats like fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
MADIS Mk2:
The command and control vehicle, which includes radar for target detection, electro-optical/infrared sensors, and electronic warfare capabilities to defeat unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and provide situational awareness for the pair.
Key components and capabilities
JLTV platform:
The MADIS is mounted on the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) for mobility and survivability across various terrain types.
Remote Weapon System (RWS):
A key component is the Kongsberg RS6 remote weapon system, which can be equipped with the 30mm cannon and Stingers.
Integrated kill chain:
The system is designed to handle the entire “kill chain,” from detecting and tracking a target to neutralizing it.
Counter-UAS mission:
The MADIS is a crucial counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) weapon specifically designed to counter the growing threat of drones in modern warfare.” –Google AI text and photo.
