Hi all,
long time no see (or converse
).
Anywho, I’m “thinking” about restarting the hobby and need some advise on what you prefer to use for chrome and polished alloy finishes. As I’m here in little ole NZ, if possible give opinions on easily obtainable hobby paints i.e. SMS, Alclad, Tamiya, AK, Mig etc etc, would be greatly appreciated.
As stated I’ve crawled out from under my rock and restarting the hobby, and as all previous projects never required chrome or polished alloy gubbins I would like to sort out that area before committing any further $ or time.
The proposed project(s) intended are a typical NZ line-haul truck in 43rd scale.
Many thanks in advance for any hints, tips etc.
Regards to all.
Roger.

I would say Revell chrome. Some other options you might have access too.

Molotow Chrome is spectacular. I’m also using Humbrol Chrome Silver enamel in spray cans that gives a terrific polished metal finish. Alclad paints work well, but require more work to apply since you’re asked to paint their black gloss as a primer coat AND it must be airbrushed.

My vote would be for the Molotow Chrome markers. Not sure which part of NZ you’re in, but you can get them from Gordon Harris Art stores - 4 in Auckland, 1 each Ham, Welly & Chch.
Markers do have a half life though, Chrome turns silver about a year after opening.

Hi all,
Many thanks for your suggestions/input.
Having spent wayyyyy to much time watching reviews of the numerous chrome paints available (and getting confused by some application methods) I have decided I will go the quick, easy, cheaper route and give the Molotow brand a try.
Regards to all.
