So, I saw this this morning and am now curious if this of the Vargas kit is the better option. I know a fine modeler on here also recently also created a 3D printed 777 and am not sure if this is the Same one or a different one. But we now have two to three different options, and I was wondering everybody’s opinion on who I should give my money too.
I have built the Vargas M777 twice and like it. It is very detailed and easy to build (in my opinion).
Ukraine version, towed. Scroll down to the middle of the post below.
US version, firing position.
I do have the Spalah M777 Crew Figures, and they look really good. I haven’t painted them yet.
I don’t know anything about this one or the other one you mention.
I saw your build and as aways was very impressed. I can only hope I can do half of what you were able to pull off.
+1 on the Vargas Models M777A2. Not because it’s made in Puerto Rico (my birthplace), but because it looks amazing as built by Gino.
This is still a month away from being released so it’s a bit hard to compare it against other kits.
The only opinions you are going to get will favor the Vargas kit because that’s only one for sale right now.
KL
true but there are a few people who seem to have insider info on things that are happening, so I thought I’d ask, Preemptively and a few people have eagle eyes and a really good working knowledge of the 777 and can give a decent opinion just by the pic.
The pic of the Spalah M777 looks to be a CAD rendering. It looks like it has all the parts and is well detailed, but we won’t really know how it is until someone gets the actual printed parts and takes a gander at them.
I was hoping you would weigh in on this
Me? I’m just a guy with 3D printers. What do I know?
CAD images from Spalah:
Only based on the CAD images, I see several shortcomings already:
Muzzle brake shape is way off:
Reference photos:
Are those non-US version wheels?
Reference photos:
Older wheel:
Where are the accordion-like “grooves” on the arms? Why are they smooth?
Ref. photos:
Vargas’ attempts:
Muzzle brake shape is not hugely accurate but looks better than the CAD image:
Is this supposed to be an older wheel?
I cannot find reference photos that match it.
Vargas depicted the groove covers:
We shall see…
Perfect and thank you that’s the expert eye I was trying to get to look at it.
@HeavyArty Gino, you said that you purchased Spalah figures in 1/35 scale…how are their quality? I am contemplating a 1/16 figure from them. Thanks.
too bad Shapeways went under. Had some good figures. Anyone know if the maker still makes them
There is a third option - YK3D - who shared images of about a month ago. I identified several of the shortcomings - but then I decided to do more than that - I sent him my walk aroung and pointed out several areas that were lacking. Still waiting for the results of his changes, which he said he’s work to rectify.
OK, thanks, Gino.
If everybody is ok with it, I would like to pivot this thread to a place to compare, rate and discuss the accuracy and quality of 3D printed items from around the world.
You’d have the same problem you have with injection molded kits. Some modelers praising the kit, i.e. looks awesome, will look great with a little TLC - to others bashing the same kit as wildly inaccurate. And as KL points out, some will sing its praises because it’s the one verision they built.
