BIT Group Build (Because it's There!)

PT-76B, your name sake! Nice choice.

I made the start date 1 June, as most builds seem to be established start in January or up to March and run for 12 months This way, the end date is May 31 2027, a time when fewer builds (if any) will be coming to the finish line.

This sounds like a good one.

Early days yet, but I’ll have something I want to do that doesn’t fit any of the other campaigns.

Had a think today of the projects I keep putting off. So, it’s down to either:

  1. Matchbox Skyknight finished as a Marines Vietnam jammer.

  2. BAC Strikemaster in Omani markings. Either Sword or Airfix toolings.

And in keeping with my Mediterranean/Malta collection I’m eager to complete:

  1. Ju88. Have the old Italeri taunting me. It’s old, basic, but should look ok once finished.

  2. Airfix Bristol Beaufort.

  3. Italeri SM.79.

Decisions, decisions.

I have a small pile of kits in the stash that have slightly damaged boxes. I really want to build some of those - especially some of the old Matchbox ones. So I will likely go with one of them. Definitely “because it is there” feel for me

I do like to see a Matchbox project come together!

Me too. Sweet memories.

Cut my teeth on Matchbox in the 90’s. They were cheaper and generally went together better than the old Airfix. Still have a fondness for their 1/76 armour kits.

Speaking of Airfix, I recently picked an Emhar F3H Demon that looks like a Matchbox. Something about the break down of the parts and sprue layout. It all seems like it’s done the Matchbox way. I would even say the subject itself is right up Matchbox’s street. There was a discussion about this on another page here that did imply an ex-Matchbox employee worked for Emhar.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Matchbox it is

It’s not just me is it? It looks like a Matchbox kit.

And like that I have another contender for my entry.

According to Scalemates, the Emhar kit was a new tool kit in 1991, well after Matchbox kits had ceased.

My memory of Matchbox is that the sprues were less crowded with the smaller parts.

“Ooh ooh. Pick me pick me”

I can just hear he boxes in the stash shout that. A whole cupboard full of boxes to choose from. There are 2 kits im looking at to combine into 1

(It won’t actually look like anything has gone from the stash though )

It never does!

I know it’s made by a different company and not a Matchbox, but it’s the way it’s organised and laid out on that sprue. It’s very reminiscent of one of their kits. Emhar have managed the smaller bits better than Matchbox did certainly. There is a thread here (What kit do you prefer) where @barkingdigger says that they had a former Matchbox tool room manager, so it looks like he’s doing it the way he used to.

I’m trying to think what Matchbox I’ve got easily to hand to demonstrate. It’s just something about this kit, it’s giving me deja vu.

It should be a fun little project regardless.

It does have the Matchbox feel to it, but Matchbox usually made the connection point much smaller for the small parts like gunbarrels etc.

Maybe it is just the tool manager that had a matchbox background as previously pointed out.

Well now! I know I have a few kits that are just stretching their sprues out for a chance to finally be built.
This one fits the “armor” category but also the “utterly ridiculous” category. The list of aftermarket parts is on the bottom right of the box. Do you see what I mean? Edit: I also have some Master Club tracks and some “special” decals. :kissing_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yep, this is the one - just because it’s there in my stash.

LOL!!!

Leaning toward this one. Should be a good challenge.

Welcome aboard guys. I think you both have your work cut out for you with those choices! I’m looking forward to seeing them during the build. Cheers.

Hi Mike,
That is hilarous, I always thought that was a photoshoped picture, :joy::rofl::rofl::rofl:.
Cheers

I suspect it is. The variances in the metal and shadows on the side of the turret are identical, which is exactly what happens when you use Photoshop’s clone tool.

And yes, @petbat, I may well chicken out before the start line and pick something else! I’ve got an old 1/72 Mustang from Frog that’s in a similar card and bag packaging but looks to be better quality.

Um, if anyone thought the triple turret was ever anything but a Photoshop joke then ngl I’m going to look at you differently.

*ngl is internet for “not gonna lie” for you over-61’s in the audience. FYI
