BIT Group Build (Because it's There!)

Group Build Title: Because It’s There

Group Build Leader(s): @petbat

Group Build Description: Many will know that when British mountaineer George Mallory was asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest, he famously replied “Because it’s there”. With that spirit in mind, I am proposing a “Because It’s There” Group Build. The intent of this build is for participants to choose any kit in their stash and build it. Any subject, any scale, any genre, etc - the only stipulation is that the kit must require assembly - there must be some effort in the actual build as well as painting, just like there is some effort needed in a mountain ascent.

This is the opportunity to pick a model you have wanted to build but have held off for whatever reason. Maybe you are a habitual Group Build Junkie and the kit has not yet fit in any other build, or you wanted to do a kit review but a full stand alone review was a bit daunting, or maybe you just did not have the little push you needed to start that kit, well this is the build for you.

Rules: New builds only - No part started builds.
Participants must post a picture of the contents of the unbuilt kit
Conversions or upgrades to the kit and scratch building details or converting is acceptable.

If you want to go the ‘whole hog’ and do a 100% scratch build, because the subject is what you have always wanted to scratch build, then go for it - just post a pic of your Evergreen and raw material stock (just kidding on the last part!)

In progress pictures must be posted in the thread. Adding some commentary on the quality of the kit, pitfalls, ommissions, what you love about it, etc, are encouraged.
The build must be done and posted solely in this Group Build, unless the subject of this build is in addition to a separate kit for another build.

Event Details: (Remember to click “Going” if you want to join the build!)

The “Because It’s There” build is open to all modellers, all subjects, all scales and all genre.

Completion Award: [All participants that complete their build by the due date will be awarded a medal for completion:

]

A Note about Awards: In order for people participating and finishing their projects to receive a badge on their forum profile, they will need to provide their account username to the group build leader by the completion date of the build. The leader will then provide this list to the site admin who will bulk award the badges to those users who have finished the group build. If you don’t provide your username or finish the project on the timetable the leader has setup you will not be able to receive an award.

This sounds cool, and a very welcome campaign. It’s nice to have an unrestricted subject. I have a kit in mind already.

Great idea Peter,

I like the analogy with the clumb of Everest depending of the complexity of the built ! :slightly_smiling_face:

Several kits of my stash which didn’t fit old campaigns can fit this one.

You have narrowed down that large stash to just one kit?

“Because it is there” is also why many people go around mountains, just sayin’.

A lot of people here also say “Because it was there” after buying a kit ! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I might have something I could build just for this campaign :+1::+1:

I feel like I was just triple dog dared.

Edit: I really should not post at 1am. Or maybe I should. More entertainment value. Not sure. Anyway… I wanted to build an exploration vehicle for All Things Apocalyptic and Adorable and later, Winter Wonderland, but it never happened. The parts are still set aside so I could finally build that. I could finally build one of my big Stukas. Maybe build a robot to be safe. I could even build it as a mountain climber planting a flag.

Yeah Ryan, I have one with tracks and PE that’s just been screaming at me from the shelf for a while now.

Great idea, Peter!

I’m in…and although I can never match the size of stash some buddies here have, I’ll choose something to build!

Cheers,

Angel

Hmmm - which one will it be? I have so many to choose from, and only six months to dither!

Who’s it gonna be?

I am pretty sure all my models feel exactly the same way.

I’ve got a bunch of stuff to join in with, I’ll decide which one to make for this when it starts I think :joy:

Great to see this build has gained such a large following already.

It is also great to see so many of you talented guys signing up, guys that I have had the pleasure of joining in with previously.

I’m really looking forward to the diversity and comradeship!

Me First!

This is fairly old kit.(2007) Although this tank is not well known to people (like the Sherman, T-34, T-55, etc.). But I like it, and for the first time in my modeling hobby, I will use aftermarket photo-etched parts and do my very best to build it.

The rules say unbuilt, sealed kit. Anyway Here I Go.
