Boulton Paul DEFIANT Mk.I in 1/48 by Airfix with extras

Thank you @Merlin.

Here’s a longer post.

DSC01145 (Small)

Working on the post shading.

DSC01146 (Small)

Now the flaps and finishing the undercarriage.

DSC01147 (Small)

Flaps a re really tight fit and tough to keep in place. Try drilling 0.4mm holes in the wings for the retractors, then add the flaps and finally push down the retractors one at a time and glue. They’re pretty sturdy after that.

DSC01148 (Small)

Nice PE from Eduard.

DSC01149 (Small)

0.5mm tube and ez-line… not fun, but worth it for the look.

DSC01150 (Small)

Side wires, just like in the picture of Rowan’s walk around.

DSC01151 (Small)

This is the footstep after I worked it over. Otherwise, it’s just a plain bit of plastic.

DSC01152 (Small)

There’s a hole for the hand/foot lift but Airfix didn’t add the part.

DSC01154 (Small)

Rear view mirrors.

DSC01156 (Small)

Light soot stains. I may add more.

DSC01160 (Small)

Ocean blue barrels with an iron metalizer dry-brushed. These can always be replaced with brass, but I wanted to give the new David Union rotary tool a workout.

DSC01161 (Small)

Getting the turret on was not easy with added PE detail. You’ll need to sand the inside of the clear part where the rounded part of the guns connects to the pivot arm.

DSC01162 (Small)

Some touch-ups need doing.

DSC01163 (Small)

Rad cowl installed.

DSC01164 (Small)

Pitot tip needs a little bend down.

DSC01165 (Small)

Props have a metal sheen and the spinner a light feather on the tip to bring out the cap.

DSC01166 (Small)

Light soil dusting on the tires.

DSC01167 (Small)

In the beauty shots you’ll see these came out way better than this picture.

DSC01168 (Small)

Just a whole lot of little details.

DSC01169 (Small)

More later. Thanks everyone.

Brilliant stuff HG, absolutely brilliant! So many little details that just bring it to life, and your weathering isn’t heavy enough to overpower or distract from the finer work that you’ve done.

Love it!

Cheers, D

It will depend on when new parts are needed for the wheelchairs. Should start the riveting though, yes?

There is a review of the reissued 1/48 Airfix version (combining Mk1 dayfighter & NF1 nightfighter) in their Model World July 2020 issue, includes various aftermarket sets - builder was Andy Davies, he did a superb job on it, looks very cool. If that’s of any interest & you can’t find it elsewhere PM me with your email address and I’ll send you a pdf scan of the article :tumbler_glass:
