Build in the memory of Robert Jan aka SpeedyJ

Got some little more done on the load of the Einheitsanhänger:

  • 2 halfbeams,
  • 2 connecting clamps
  • a binding beam clamp and
  • a small cable reel with frame

I rearranged the load on the trailer, now it looks like this:

I’ll stop adding items to the load so next will be painting and weathering. Then I’ll move to the Büssing-NAG 4500S build,

Cheers,
Angel

Not feeling like spraying paint, I’ve started with the construction of IBG’s Bussing-NAG 4500S truck, that will tow the Einheitsanhaenger 5t.
The search for refferencies gave almost nothing-except few engine pictures(restored trucks)- quite odd how a very common 4.5t class truck might be so obscured(I’ve seen a Bulgarian BN 4500S Manual in Svishtov’s Museum of Military Engeneering Equipment, but it was behind glass, so not accesible)…

Spent almost a week detailing the pretty basic engine IBG provide, using AFV Club’s Kfz.100 kits engine as size refference and some engine pictures:

Almost everything I had to scratchbuild is present on AFV Club’s engine(less fuel tubes and wires). That’s a hint why Robert Jan abandoned his IBG build and went for AFV Club’s kits one.

Angel

Beautiful work Angel, your last sentence caused a chuckle in my mind – maybe I was chanelling RJ confirming your theory, along with that twinkle in his eyes…

Weather here was finally settled enough for flat coat to be laid. Now I am at weathering stage for the Locust.

Touch ups around the lights, etc will be part of the next process. I added a rolled tarp to the front as it needed something to distract from the green and there is a photo of one of the ones damaged during Varsity and the straps for the stowage can be seen hanging down (not to be confused with another pic of an Egyptian one knocked out in 1948)l.

Looking like something more fitting for this build.

By the way. @ayovtshev . We have had a discussion in the past, about Gunze Flat clear leaving white spots behind. Whilst I usually leave it 15 minutes after thinning with Lacquer Thinner and give it a good stir, I have recently had to buy their lacquer flat clear as the other was out of stock. Having used it a few times now, I have to say I feel it is much better than the aqueous one.

It might be something for you to try yourself

Thanks for the tip, Peter!

Contrary to all health precautions, I have recently switched a lot of my GS Mr.Hobby paintspraying from their Aqueous to their Lacquer range-because of paint performance and behavior, plus the superfast drying-to-be-touched time.

I have this Flat Clear in my stash, need to dig it out and give it a try.
I just don’t get it why Gunze Sangyo lack a bottled Clear in the Lacquer range too…

That’s a great looking Locust!
Seems pretty weathered to me.
Wait, I’m simply too lazy to weather my builds… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Okay, I am calling this one done. Not too much in the way of weathering given they were not months in use. A bit of splashed mud and muddy water marks where it ran off. I hope Robert Jan would be happy to accept the build in his memory.

I enjoyed this one much more than the 1/48th Citreon 11CV.

Simple base to show it off.

Looks great Peter and I think the simple base adds to the model. :+1:

The Breuer has arrived.

As I understand Robert was about pushing boundaries……this will stretch mine.

He also liked the Italian army in Africa, is that correct? Thinking about color and markings.

Looks very interesting Ryan. Are the striations deep?

While you can “see” them, I could not feel them at least on that piece.

I had a tough month with a week of sick leave and plenty to cope with at work, plus my modelling chair broke…What I’ll show was built mainly 3 weeks ago.

The only picture of a Bulgarian BN 4500S truck, I am aware of, was taken postwar(1949 in Kazanluk). It shows a late production truck with simplified fenders and short bumper:
Bulgarian BN 4500S in Kazanluk 1949

The BN 4500S trucks(30 in total) were delivered to Bulgaria in mid 1943, thus they fit in the timeframe of production simplifications.
Plus the truck on the picture is carrying workers of Factory 10( ex State Military Factory in Kazanluk, nowadays Arsenal JSC), an armament factory with links to Bulgarian Army.
All these facts make a transfer of ex-Army trucks to Factory 10 quite reasonable.

Bottomline, I decided to build a late production truck from IBG’s BN 4500S.

I sanded the grille and added some fine radiator mesh, built the new simplified bumper and the support for the Notek light from brass sheet.
Found late fenders with their supports in AFV Clubs Kfz.100 kit(A sprue, not used for the Kfz.100) and reworked the supports for their stepping boards.
Added both brake valves with their pressure lines.
Started working on the engine compartments rear wall, still need to scratchbuild some tiny features and add wiring there.
The truck is big and has a long loadbed, which I intend to fill with some bridge-building materials and equipment.

Some pictures follow:

Great work there. (But of course, it’s you!)
Thought at first it was a Bussing-Nag.

Always a joy to see your very productive work.

My compliments to the chef!

Thanks Peter!
A bit belated, but nevertheless a great find…
“A” sprue in Kfz.100 kit comes from AFV Club’s “Late BN 4500A” kit, it contains not only the late fenders with their supports, but also the late grille(I sanded IBG’s one…), the Notek light support(I scratchbuilt it) and the late headlights, which I will also use.And all those parts are not used in KFZ.100 so they are for the spare’s bin

Thanks Mike!
I feel obliged to say this- my love for trucks and trailers(and their chassies) started when I found your splendid builds on the old Armorama.

Angel

REALLY? ~ I had no idea! Gosh!

Thank you for this extremely high compliment!

I am sure it was not the quality of the builds as mine are certainly no match for yours but perhaps just the intent, the subjects and the attempt are what did the trick.

Got bogged down a bit with BN 4500S engines firewall- too many cables and lines…Bottomline- they’re done and there’s only a couple of fuel lines that’ll need some trimming when final assembly takes place

Angel
