I was asked if we had any interesting mods on our M1114’s, but other than removing the governors we really didn’t. This is an M1152, not an M1114, but the extra fuel can rack is interesting. It could be added to any vehicle. Going back to the discussion about what and how much gets carried, notice the go bags in the rear. Normally you’d want your go bag close by, but space was at a premium in gun trucks. As the gunner I stood not on the platform but on extra cans of .50 ammo. My go bag was usually at my feet or in the turret. (in this photo you can see by IBA on the roof) For the other guys, they could retrieve theirs through the rear hatch. You can see a pistol mag in the photo. As I said, we usually carried the minimum amount of crap and maxed out on the things that could harm people. I carried four M9 mags on my person and had several more in my go bag. Details like this will really help out any build. And the beer. That’s no joke. We had to bring it to our COP somehow. Far as I know NAAFI didn’t make deliveries. And I’ve said this before as well - nix the Coke and Mountain Dew. If we carried anything carbonated other than beer it was the small cans of Rip It. Coke stayed in the team house for adding to Bourbon, at least for the unwashed.
Also a good reference photo for what the spare looks like after a romp across the desert.
