Building the AFV Club M51A2 Gun Truck Peace Maker

I’m not sure if this is another error or maybe I’m just not getting it. The attached instructions show using Q1 and then Q2. However, there doesn’t seem to be a way to put the 2 pieces of Q1 side by side and make them fit. I left them off and just used the Q2 pieces which seemed to fit the available space. There is also a typo, when assembling the 50 cal, the instructions say to use X3 but the correct part is really X30.

Did the Q1’s not fit in the rectangular holes in the armoured “windshield”?

Just rechecked Eve instructions and they have a sprue Q with 4 parts so maybe you need these since the regular dump shows N1 as the side windows. Wayne

Not even close, the Q1’s are larger than the D7 openings.

Nothing on the clear parts tree matches with what Q1 is supposed to be. Q1 is too large, Q2 are as shown in the instructions and the rest appear to be side windows and are otherwise too small.

On the Eve of Destructions instructions they show these parts. Maybe that is what it needs? Wayne

I’ll dig out one of my “Eve” kits and compare the Q1’s to the Peace Maker kit.

Cut out rectangles from some clear plastic sheet?

Yeah, that’s the only one I don’t have handy, so I had to look on Scalemates. Wayne

Eve is the same as the Q1 and Q2 parts along with the D7 windshield frame (which is the same as the cargo truck). Cargo truck only has the Q2 glass so the Q1 is for the GT’s. I did the same comparison with Eve and the Q1’s still won’t fit into the D7 frame. The Q2’s have notches but they don’t line up with anything on the frame. I’m really not sure what the intention is. They would be hidden behind the armor from the outside and neither the Q1 nor the Q2 come close to the thick armor glass blocks that were used. Looking at the pic on the instructions, it looks like Q2 is supposed to be the block glass which is fitted over the regular windscreen glass but the parts don’t match up with the drawings, Q2 is the stock glass and I have no idea what the Q1’s are for. I just used the Q2’s…

What are the 4 pieces on the sprue Q that is shown on the Eve instructions? The clear parts are on sprue n. Wayne

The Q tree in Eve has the 4 clear windshield parts that certainly look like the correct size!!! Looks like AFV Club screwed up again, they should have included this extra tree in the Peace Maker kit!

Glad we got it figured out at least. Sounds like they need to go over their instructions a little better. Will have to make a note to try and order the Q sprue. Wayne

No kidding! It really shouldn’t be that hard to take the appropriate GT parts from Eve and put them in Peace Maker.

Ok, so we have these mistakes. Use S sprue frames Need Q sprue for windshield glass. Cab floor needs mods. Make sure gun box fits and don’t glue B13 so they pivot. Any thing else you can think of and someone can notify AFV Club. Hopefully they will sell or supply the missing sprues. Wayne

Well, Warren, looks like AFV Club would save a lot of money if they gave you the kit for free to test build it for them!
I’d say that’s a lot of bugs for a kit, I wonder why did it turn out that way - were they trying to make it befor the tariffs kick in or something?
Congratulations on a finished model! Have a nice day

The only other thing that comes to mind is the decals. The ones along the bottom of the sheet (for the fuel tanks) weren’t fully printed. If you look closely at my photos you can see just a few random white blobs. This was as they came off the sheet. For the last 10-15 years, I’ve been building 1/25 scale trucks. Most of my builds are full-on customs using modified chassis from kits or resin and resin or 3D printed cabs and bodies so I’m used to creating parts from scratch. I decided to build a couple of box-stock kits to avoid the problems associated with kit-bashing but this kit has not lived up to my expectations in many regards.
I’ve sent a list of the above items to my contact at Merit International. I won’t be asking for the missing Q parts as my model is already done and I don’t foresee doing another one (unless maybe the Mafia Operated decals look good…never say never, right?)

Yeah, I’ll have to figure out how to get the Q sprue for mine. Glad you have a contact to let them know the problems so that hopefully they will correct them. Thanks, Wayne

I would contact the dealer you bought the kit from and say that parts tree (sprue) Q is referenced in the instructions but was not included in the box. The clear tree is N as included so in this case it appears that the instructions reference the correct sprue, it’s just not in the box. If you bought from a USA dealer/source, you could try Tony at Merit International in CA. They seem to be the USA contact for AFV Club. 626-912-2212. They will only supply parts for kits sold in the USA. I went thru AFV Hobby in Taiwan to get my replacements as they were the sellers I got the kit from on Ebay. Between those 2, AFV Club did make a post to their FB page about the frame rail issue but it was, in my opinion, less than adequate as they just said use the shorter rails. There is more involved than that which becomes apparent when you compare the M54 cargo truck instructions to the M51 dump truck instructions.
