Building the AFV Club M51A2 Gun Truck Peace Maker

so,contacted my seller to see about getting the elusive Q sprue. They are looking into it and hopefully will contact AFV and get things squared away. Wayne

I got mine from the same Taiwan seller, and am trying to explain that the parts are shown, but not included. He replied back that the M51 is not armored, so I had to explain that the Peace Maker version is. Hope to hear back soon. UPDATE: He just got back to me and said he would check with the AFV Club team, so he must be in contact with them. Wayne

Good luck. Once they understand, they seem to get on board. Send them a pic of the instruction sheet like above, item 19, and ask him where the Q tree is? It’s not listed on the parts list in the instructions…but seems to be necessary to build the model as the clear parts provided aren’t correct for a gun truck.
Let me know if you get any pushback and I’ll throw in.

Thanks, I sent the picture, so hopefully they will be able to take care of it. Will let you know how it turns out. Wayne

Comparing instruction sheets and they appear to have just copied the first page for building the frame from the King Cobra kit for the PeaceMaker kit. It is identical and is the only one where they cut the frame to eliminate the winch. Just got lazy, I guess. Wayne

I’ve built up 3 of the M54A2 chassis so far (4 if you count the botched one) and I’ve been wondering why they don’t at least mention leaving the winch off for the cargo trucks. My understanding is that many of them did not have winches so it seems odd they would just leave you to figure it out. Then again, maybe not based on my experiences to date! I think the Peace Maker kit instructions have been cut and pasted from other kits but it seems whoever did it hasn’t ever built any of them!

Yeah, I’ve figured that out too. The dump truck I drove never had a winch, most didn’t. I’m putting together a list of the screwups with all the kits so far. Will put it up soon. Wayne

With all the help and advise I’ve received over the years from members on here, it’s a small repayment. Thanks to you all. Wayne

I’ve been building 3 more of the AFV Club M54A2 chassis and thought I’d add a few tips based on changes I’ve made to the construction. As the cabs/hoods are the same, I figured I’d add them to this thread.
When I get to the cab, I build the cab per the instructions though I add the exhaust support when I put on the right side door. I find it goes better as it you can adjust if needed before the glue sets. When I’m done with the cab, I mount it to the chassis before attaching the fenders. The cab mounts are important for body spacing etc so I consider them non-negotiable. The fender assembly with the radiator can be tweaked as needed (so far all 3 have needed a bit of massaging) and then the hood (which has also needed a little work, mostly the back by the windshield sits too high). I’ve gotten a better fit this way than strictly following the instructions. YMMV.

I received a notification a little while ago from the seller I bought the ā€œPeace Makerā€ kit from. It said they have identified the issue with the missing windshield glass tree Q and have some from AFV Club. They indicated they will be sending me the missing Q parts. Wayne, I suspect you’ll be getting them also, if not, let me know and I’ll send you mine (assuming they arrive) as my build is finished.

Yeah, I just got my notice and tracking number from them. I had been talking back and forth with them and also on the AFV Club facebook page. They said they are aware of the problems and will be correcting them with future releases of it. If you aren’t going to use them I would take them, as I will probably get another one to do as Peace Maker or the Judge at some time and you never know if they will get you an older release or not. So, thanks for the offer. Will pm you my address. Wayne

Which Facebook page? I check several that their search came up with but I didn’t see anything since the instruction sheet a month ago.

The 2 I have gone to are AFV Club Taiwan and the Ebay dealer AFV Hobby. The last is the one we both have bought from, I believe. The first is the one who mentioned the revisions. That was in a message I was sent, not on their page. Wayne

That looks really nice.

Thanks, it’s a little too glossy, the satin I used isn’t flat enough. I’ve mixed my own ratio for future builds.

Well, my Ebay seller, AFV HOBBY got me the missing sprue Q today. Hopefully they are including it in their new boxings along with the revised instructions that we pointed out. Good customer service. Wayne
