Campaign ideas 2024

Question about the getting hitched campaign. I was thinking of doing an artillery piece for the artillery campaign. Could I do a half track for the getting hitched one and combine it with the already completed artillery being towed, or would you prefer to have everything be started from scratch?

Good question. At this stage my post was more of a ‘feeler’ to see if anyone would be interested if I created a campaign to start some time next year. The nitty gritty would be worked out later.

My initial take on it though, is that I would like to see the build showcase the two elements coming together in the one Group Build. In the case of a tank transporter and trailer, adding a vehicle load to the trailer is not necessary, so using a model built for another build to round out the scene would not be a problem. Similarly if someone was to build the Tamiya Quad and ammunition limber for this build, that would fit the premise. Whether or not they added a 25 pounder to it as a third element would not matter, but if one were built for a separate artillery build, then that is added for ‘aesthetics’.

However, there is the decision of whomever ran the other build to consider. To be eligible for that, it is likely that build will follow the traditional one model per group build. So, to save any conflict and possible ill feeling, I’ll say that for the hitched build, the two main components would need to be exclusive to that build, but anything else added after is open.

Fair enough!! Thanks for the reply!

Thank you for the badge information!

A Tamiya Quad Gun Tractor is perfect for Hitched.

How about a campaign for any machine used in the reconnaissance role? That could be anything from a soldier on a bicycle to an SR-71.

We had the “Lifting the Fog of War” build for this, that finished earlier this year Doug.

Oh well. That would have been an easy one to build for.

How about a campaign where the subject is something blown apart, burnt out, or blasted real good?

How about a contest campaign where one has to camouflage something into the surrounding groundwork and foliage? (Remember, snipers come with a spotter and a shooter…not just one figure unless Sci-Fi or Post-Apocalyptic).

It will be a build campaign and also a contest to see who designs the most realistic camouflage, meaning one has to actually see the model in the foliage and groundwork and covering the entire model with shrubs and branches isn’t realistic to real life because not every inch can be camouflaged.

One can also have an “Egg-scale model” or “Toon non-scale model kit” campaign.

Or how about having a campaign where the paint brands and paints are selected and the modeler has to adhere to that color palette (say 6-12 set colors). Yes, one has to buy the paints or paint set and then can only use those paints for the campaign.

Interesting ideas there guys.

Tank Overhaul: Choose a completed model from your collection and give it a thorough overhaul. Overhauling a model built and painted by someone else qualifies. A simple overhaul might involve fixing some small problems and adding extra stowage. A more complex overhaul may require stripping and repainting the model. A really complex overhaul would require breaking down the model into component parts to make corrections. At the end of the project, you must include at least one set of before and after photos of the model from the same angle.

Winter 2024 Speed Build: The campaign leader must choose an affordable, readily available model. Anyone wishing to participate must purchase that model and complete it within 10 hours. The campaign runs for 3 months. (This sort of campaign could repeat regularly if enough people enjoy such things. By cheap, I mean $10 US or so.)

A Season of Giving: Build any model that suits your fancy, then give it away as a gift.

Charge!: Build a diorama depicting machines and/or men charging into battle. The diorama must convey that the main elements are on the move and mean business.

Age of Intelligent Machines: Build a model of any unmanned, self propelled machine. Such machines include remotely piloted drones, aircraft converted into target drones, remote controlled vehicles used to lay or sweep mines, autonomous vehicles for carrying people and supplies, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, androids, and giant robots.

It’s been ages since I last built a submarine…

Overhauling, could even include ships, aircraft cars, figures, space ships etc. Potentially a very inclusive Campaign idea.

A++

Definitely good motivation to try and fix up one of these ~40+ year old builds.

Strangest kit build: Do not wait any longer. Take the kit of the strangest subject from your stash and build it for the campaign.

Rarest kit build: Do not wait any longer. Take the kit of the rarest out-of-production extremely hard-to-find subject from your stash and build it for the campaign.

“Holy Grail” kit build: Do not wait any longer. Take the best, “I wanted this kit SO MUCH that it’s gold to me” kit from your stash and build it for the campaign.

Years ago, on the old site, we had a “Just because I want to” type build, which is very similar to your ‘Holy Grail’ idea. It was a very popular build if I remember correctly. I think it would also be popular here now - it guarantees what you want to build fits the rules!

I’d be in for the submarines, motorcycles, and “holy grail” ideas.

I’ve got a couple kits I’ve been hanging onto for awhile, afraid to start.

Motorcycles would also interest me. I don’t think we have ever had one of those. You could extend that to Kettenkraftrad too maybe.

A lot of military motorcycle kits to choose from and a whole lot more like Tamiya’s 1/12 range if you are talking any scale and open to civilian bikes.

There was one way back in 2015, it is archived in the old site:
‘Bike – Wind in Your Hair Campaign’

Note: For some reason, the link times out on my end. Maybe you’ll have better luck.

Wow, I don’t even recall actually seeing that one. 8 years ago… well, time for a new one then! :motorcycle:

PS. I think the old site is down. I tried searching for the campaign I mentioned earlier and had the same issue.
