Campaign - Royal Tank Regiment - 1917 and Beyond

Cheers chaps and many thanks for the praise … Glad you all like it … I can see a 1/32 Hurricane in my near future … along with a 1/35 King Tiger (early rounded turret)

Guys, I’m at painting some details on my Chieftain and I wonder if the exhausts had a rusty look or not. All photos I’ve found so far in the www show them painted in camo …
Any help is appreciated.

Shoot!

I completely forgot to enter and show my Tamiya Chieftain here!!

Oh well…

@BlackWidow Torsten, looking at those exhausts I would dare to guess that they were painted in heatresistant paint, so not prone to rusting?

Never mind. I am building the Chieftain for the “vintage”-campaign. I am mixing things up here.

But just for the heck of it, the Chieftain in Tamiya’s NATO black over field grey:

I’ll be joining here with a Challenger 2 instead.

They would be painted over, but that burnt off pretty quickly… Usually just a dull dirty cold iron finish is perfect :+1:

More progress on the Firefly.

Most of the lower hull is done, minus some details. Doing this while watching my hobby room being tiled, along with the jacket and linen closet floors.

Has to skip an invite from my brother to his house for dinner, but it took my tile guy all day to get the room and closets done the right way.

More progress tomorrow, hopefully.

More progress on the Firefly. This time, the back end is completed.

Is interesting how the Brit’s mounted the towing pintle into a leaf spring and placed it higher tha. The factory placement. Guess it gives you a more flex when towing a heavy trailer. Debating wherever I want to add or remove the mud guards on the side. I’ll have to do some extra research on how I want to proceed with the build.

My entry:

The general idea;

and progress so far; the barrel was a pain to get aligned, 4 halves and a ring inbetween.

Nice choice. How is the plastic on this boxing?

I have to confess I bought the Airfix rebox a number of years back and found it difficult to work with. The plastic was hard, brittle, greasy and seemed resistant to most glues. Didn’t help with the fit of a lot of parts. Put me off Trumpeter for quite a while! Hoping they changed to a better plastic on yours.

Allthough it is one of Trumpeter’s older kits, the plastic is quite workable, even if it has a tendency to fray a bit when sanded.

Fit is good to so far. The ejectormarks are the main issue, really, since there are plenty, even on the small parts.

Oh yes, they were a pain too.

I had a lot of trouble with thin parts like those at the bottom, they just broke no matter how careful I was at cutting. I don’t know if mine was made from a bad batch of styrene or that’s just how old Trumpeter was. I think what’s left of it is still in the attic at my parents place.

Best of luck with it.

Built a few Trumpies now. Their T-54/55 was not so great, but their 5-in-1- Abrams was worse. That plastic was horrendous! Revell’s Contacta would not stick. Only Tamiya’s extra thin. And I literally had to drench the tracks in that just to keep’m together.

Overall fit was acceptable though.

That’s similar to what I was having. At the time I only had one model shop local and they only sold Humbrol products. Humbrol liquid just wouldn’t do it. I ended up using superglue before I gave up.

Done with the lower hull. Now a

Starting with the road wheels and bogies.

The bogies feature a pair of little springs that allow some up/down movement.

These little springs are a bit of a pain to keep in place while you put everything together, so I glued them in place to help glue it all up.

The whole bogie system is easy to put together despite being 18 pieces.

And it has quite a bit of movement to it.

One down, five to go.

Finished paint on the Chieftain turret today. Detailpainting is also done … :slightly_smiling_face:

This is how the build looks like at the moment. The hull is already prepared with Bodenglänzer for the decals. Same procedure for the turret tomorrow …
