I agree with you, Johnny.
But the problem with this point is, that it comes from my filament printer and therefore has some unsightly surfaces. I would have liked to have covered that up.
I have to agree, personally I think you dont need to add much more at all, the less busy top and bottom set the falcon off really well as is. The only thing I think is it may be better if you had a way to lift the falcon away a little if possible. Its stunningly impressive work though.
Keith
Thank you.
Good point, Keith. I now also believe that the whole model should gain a little more height. But I’ll think about that at the very end.
Again about the expansion of the middle section.
Here is a picture of the printed surface.
When I printed this I thought you wouldn’t see much of it since it was behind the falcon. But this is not the case. That’s why I’m going to remedy this with a few components.
That makes sense and understand now
This is mind-blowingly excellent. Best of Show.
Looks awesome!
The only issue I might have is…can you level the Falcon? It looks like it’s about to scrape its tail on the Death Star. Is the Falcon’s rear heavier than the front?
Thanks guys, what an honor.
@Trisaw That should be possible and it wouldn’t matter which side is heavier. The whole thing is held in place with a fat M8 threaded rod. This means that I can still change both the height and the angle.
But that will only be decided when the star surface is finished.
Now back to the surface structure of the printed parts. I think after priming again and then kitbashing the whole thing looks nicer.
As a reminder, before…
Afterward…
Y Wing, Falcon and Iron Doom parts combined.
Year.
So dear model building nerds.
Now I’ve tried a slightly longer threaded rod and I think the bird stands better now…
And here’s another look at my kitbash session today.
The MF does actually look better now its not sitting so arse heavy … I hadnt really noticed it before but what ever you did … you nailed it
Extra work on the DS panelling has totally changed it s look as well … great job
Voll jut, ee!
I agree that it looks much better with the Falcon level now.
Excellent work. Really looking forward to seeing what your paint finish will be on the tunnel section.
And I spy the Y-wing parts!
Brilliant!!
I have to agree, it looks like the Falcon is going at speed now and not attempting a hand brake turn.
You certainly have a gift for picking the right parts for the panels. It all just flows together like it was meant to be this way.
It’s nice that you now like the position of the bird.
In retrospect, I like it much better. So thanks for the tip.
@iwatajim
Believe me, I’m just as excited about the paint job and I’m also a little afraid of it.
To the Y hunter.
With us in Germany there is a children’s game that says: “I see what you don’t see.” And then you say a color and the other person has to guess what you mean. In this case…gray…lol
@petbat
You mean the famous Rockford turnaround?!
I’m amazed myself Peter, at how wonderfully kitbashing works.
When I look at the Dio as a whole, I notice that I have worked my way from the bottom right to the top left. You can clearly see progress in putting the parts together.
And so to yesterday’s meeting. More Y parts…
And that happened today.
And a few little things in the middle.
Not much anymore…
Now clean up again before we continue.
Let’s come to the finale of the middle and upper sections.
After cutting what feels like 1000 small plates, we distribute them evenly into the remaining free areas.
The Y hunters really pay off. It’s just money anyway.
The last pipe was also laid.
And with that I present fresh from the paint booth…
My very own Death Star.
And again in a long shot.
Now I have to briefly go back to the lower plate.
The covering for the threaded rod needs a surface on top.
That is beyond words … A full model in its own right.
Second. Awesome work.
”Ahem… The Emperor will be pleased with “his” very own Death Star.”

That is just freaking amazing!
It’s very rare for someone to delve into fictional space architecture and detailing on the level that you have done.
The abstract pieces and the scale is magnificent. You surely can get a job at Lucas’s ILM or Disney Star Wars if they still build models and not use all CGI!
And whats even more freaky, is how good it looks in just one colour grey …
