Centurions: Fist of the Empire

I have a question: what was this container / box for and were there any vehicles without it?

Piotr, I am no expert with these, but from what others have said who know a lot more, then IDF cents tended to have a mix and match of various bins/boxes etc added on in various places and at various times, so fitting or not fitting probably wont be an issue.

I think the gun-mounted searchlight was stored there.

Thx gents!it had no closure on the top, only a closing strip…

Israel, I know there are different Mks of IDF Cents but mine looks different and is mounted direct to the turret - the box on Piotr’s looks different and mounted on the basket ? did they have different types of main gun search lights ? I have no idea ??

The box is mounted on the hull, but in your photos it is half open and in my case it is completely, it looks like a flattened bucket

It is the container box for the round searchlight, similar to the one Magach 2 and Shermans carried. If I recall correctly it is of french origin. This box is carried on upgraded Shot and Shot Kal vehicles. It was replaced by the mount for the newer type of searchlight on the Gimel, as posted above

Thx bro! :love_you_gesture:

Indeed, we’re talking about three different types at least.
This is the original British type (circular) searchlight used on older marks:

Then there’s this circular type, which actually MIGHT be a Russian ‘Luna-2’ IR searchlight ‘liberated’ from captured equipment and adopted on Shot’s, but I’m not entirely sure about that.

This is the newest, American type (rectangular) type used on later marks:

It looks like the mounting of the old type searchlight storage box was modified to accommodate the new type.

The second one is indeed a Soviet Luna ir searchlight. Got a couple of photos but don’t have access to them as I am at work.

Thanks guys, but I still don’t know if I can not mount this box …

Which version of Cent is it ?

Shot Kal 1973 AF35124

I knew some Shot’s were equipped with it to increase their night fighting capacity and it didn’t look like the other two, so I guessed it was the ‘Luna-2’.
Nikos, I would appreciate if you shared some photos of it.

I suppose if its included in the kit, then fit it, as the time frame works for it by what Nikos said earlier.

What John said. :point_up_2:

Thx boys! :+1:

Ugraded Centurion Shot with the searchlight box:

Notice the searchlight mounting plate and the box on the front Vehicle:

Sometimes the markings were painted on the box and sometimes there was the typical canvas square:
