Combat Photographers

I’ve read about a military officer saying that combat photographers serve the purpose of keeping an eye on soldiers so they don’t want to be seen as acting cowardly or lazy and the world finds out about it. I wonder if combat photographers from opposite sides of a war might end up meeting during and after a battle, and what happens if they do. I cannot imagine this never happens.

I’m sure legendary photographer Tim Page met up with his North vietnamese opposite number after the war. i think i saw it in a documentary years ago.

Met Tim while he was visiting Northern Ireland, back in 1991-92. Had a short chat but got his autograph with a message. ‘Give peace a chance’ It was the start of the Cease-Fire seasons.
Being a former military trained Photog, my expertise was more of the spying type.

It is my understanding that all the violence in Northern Ireland achieved nothing.

The wasn’t our experience. We had a guy attached to us for a few days, who spent time with all of the teams. The reason he was allowed to roll with us is that he had some sense about him - had been to BUDs before suffering a career ending injury. Dude made a great video, but took photos from some odd angles. His name was Tod. Two Ds? We called him Photod.

Here’s some of his handiwork. Yours truly appears several times:

Someone informed me the video was private and couldn’t be viewed. My bad. I’ve fixed it. Now you should be able to view it.
