Coming soon Ferret MK2 from Airfix

At least one of those Saxons were taken from British forces (couldn’t say captured from peacekeepers?) and used by Serb forces in Bosnia. After Dayton, this vehicle, along with several others similary acquisited (Grizzly, YPR, Panhard…) was used by Secret sevice’s paramilitary branch, until disbanded and handed over to Mininstry of Interior of Republic of Serbia. That Saxon , as uniqe, is still used today by Police special forces unit - Gendarmerie.

Sorry if i have posted this earlier…

And I can assure you, not a tear was shed. I couldn’t believe the rubbish that was passing for military equipment when I was there. Lashed up armoured cars etc. I even saw a bloody Sherman parked in one village, which trumped the T54 i’d helped fit mine rollers to a week earlier.

You owe me for a new mousemat, Roly. This one has tea all over it now.

So since the announcement of this I’ve kept up with this thread. Very interesting discussions and pictures. The one thing that irked me is the timing: for the Christmas of '22 I got two Accurate Armor resin Ferrets. Not a month later, they’re announced in plastic… Those resin kits are a $100 a piece… And don’t look fun to build…Oh well! Maybe I’ll build them one day.

Edit: I may have already said this real close to the beginning of the thread, not sure, I don’t remember. If I did, oops!

Agree. Having just bult their Airborne Jeep in 1/72, and also the vehicles from their 1/72 WWII USAAF Bomber Resupply Set, (two sets!) I can say they have certainly upped their game. The 1/76 airfield support vehicles I have from ages ago are a disappointment in comparison.

Speaking of Berlin, isn’t there a famous photo of one of these escorting a kid on his bicycle on the way to school in Berlin? I’d have to dig out my books…

Edit:
Yes. Erwin Schabe. I’d like to replicate that scene.

Edit to the edit:
First off, after 33 years Erwin Schabe admitted he was not harassed by East German Police. He just didn’t want to go to school day. The British escorted him for several days after his deception.

The good news (for me at least) The registration in the kit’s decals is that of the one seen escorting Erwin. Now I have to do it.

As it happens I’ve been researching the Berlin crisis and had the images to hand:

What’s that helmet the infantry guy is wearing? It looks odd.

It’s the Mk III helmet introduced in the Second World War; post war, with a different lining and chinstrap it was designated the Mk IV.

Maybe 44 Pattern?
Hard to tell from the front, more obvious side on.

MasterBox makes a great German soldier with bicycle. Even comes with the generator and headlight. You just have to move the air pump to the rear frame piece. It already comes with PE, unlike the old Tamiya offering

Not sure what any internal update set will look like from SMM, however I would imagine there will be an air cleaner, if not I’ll scratch one myself. That being said I’ve mucked around with a pic of an air cleaner and the attached maintenance plate,

changed the perspective of it and produced this. Though not perfect when printed on decal paper at the relevant size it should be sufficient.

Funny enough I did CAD one up for Mike at SMM, so it’ll be released eventually!

Well there you go then, really look forward to seeing what is included in the update.

Hi guys, managed to grab my airfix ferret in my local radio control hobby store in Australia! If the shop assistant knew how rare this is here in Oz they would have charged me twice as much! So I want to do a royal australian army version. Which radio would be appropriate? The one parter or the two parter? I am likely to add a crew member to block it but want to at least get the shape right.
Any assistance would be most appreciated. Ta
