Commercial Trucking 2021 (Jan-Dec)

Many thanks for the feedback John. I’m really enjoying this build, it’s taking me back to my childhood and building truck kits with my dad, hopefully my skills have improved just a little!

Continuing with the small details, I have added the handles on the rear doors, installed the front control panel door and painted the handles, and installed 8 little running lights.

Waiting for a couple of after-market items now before I give it a clear gloss and start weathering.

Cheers, D

Michael, that is a nice looking kit … Reminds me of my time on the regimental recruiting team when I was driving one for a while. Is this an old or new kit ? John

Edit, on thinking about it … it is probably the OOP Accurate Armour kit ?

Refer is coming along nicely, D. I’ve heard that this kit is a little short. Most US trailers are 13’-6" (~4.1M) from the road surface. What’s the height of this one?

Jim

Great work guys. Barely have enough time for building and no where near the amount of clear space for some of these monsters.

Hi Johnny,
It is a KFS model. They specialise in British military in 1/24 scale

cheers
Michael

Thanks Jim. The Reefer measures 154mm at the wheels, scales out to 3.7 metres, so it seems to be on the short side!

The kind of truck that doesn’t pull into a fueling station,
they have tanker trucks coming out to them …

I thought I had this seamline on the roof of the Western Star sorted out, but once again the primer slapped me in the face and told me to try again!

I slopped on some MS500 with a fine brush and once it’s cured I will sand it out and let the primer speak to me once again.

Don’t we just love primer. Always there to point out our flaws!

Well, I managed to get back into the workshop for the first time in months. Cleaned up the bench to regroup on the Meng F-350. Laid down SMS chassis black on the frame and most of the suspension parts. Got a bunch of other parts base coated in prep for detail painting.

Found a bunch of chipped paint on the main body and bed shell. Going to need a lot of work to bring it up to snuff.

Great to see you back at the bench Dave, looking forward to your progress report!

How did you like the SMS paint?

Cheers, D

It goes on real well, but the SMS Wine Red is what chipped on the body. The other colors haven’t chipped.

Dave, that’s very unusual. I haven’t had any of the SMS paints chip on me yet. What did you have under the SMS?

A while back I picked up a sheet of “Black Chrome” BMF, with no particular project in mind. It just looked cool!

Turns out, it works nicely for the tailgate door frames on the Reefer, gives a nice contract to the other metallics used there so far. I’ve given it a couple of hours to settle and then a couple of coats of Alclad Aqua Gloss to lock it down.

Next up will be some decals and tail lights.

D, it was MSP 1500 white.

We had 10 straight days of rain here up to a day or so ago. Workshop got flooded on day 11. Will be a few days before I can get back to working in there. Still cleaning and drying the basement out.

I started the oil paint weathering on the bogie assembly for the Reefer tonight, before and after shots here.

I will give it a day or so to cure and then probably work it around a bit and thin out some of the heavier spots.

I also gave the rims a pin wash.

Cheers, D

Great updates. :+1:

On the reefer, why no detail painting on the little door?
