Thanks for that info. All the reference photos I found were consistently gas engines in that case. I wouldn’t expect Tamiya to get something like that wrong, but it’s been fun practice scratch-building modifications.

I’m guessing the kit has the diesel filter pipes because Tamiya used the tank pictured in the instructions as their example:
Which is the diesel-powered one that is (was?) at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds museum in the USA.

Did you ever build a resistance soldering unit? Is it described somewhere?
Regarding that, if you get a chance Mark, put a rule across the hull top. I’m certain the turret is too narrow but I forget if the hull width is off.
(Note that my measurement is 87-1/4 inches and the Soviet one converts to 87.80, while the Ordnance Front Elevation and Hull drawings say 88. My measurement is likely due to a fault with my tape or my technique.

No. Have put that off for now. When I went hunting for components, it proved to difficult to describe the specs in Japanese to the guy that ran the transformer shop.
Regarding the turret dimensions, well, yes, Jakko mentioned that previously. But it was never my intent to make a perfectly accurate conversion, and fixing that seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I suppose if I had spotted a resin replacement turret in my LHS, I would have gone with it, but the kit turret will do. If I need a ruler to tell it’s wrong then it probably doesn’t trip my level of concern. I know others would take a different approach.
All that said, I appreciate all the input. Always good to learn something new.

I was just asking about the hull width, out of a curiosity piqued by Matt’s comment about the kit being designed around battery sizes. My vague recollection was that the Tamiya hull was the correct width.

Ready to admit defeat on this one. Original plan had been to go very light on the weathering, but I just couldn’t get my weathering mojo in line so each step ended up being an attempt to correct/hide previous steps until I was in a weathering death spiral. Not at all happy with the end result, but it is what it is and time to move on.
And my photography skills are no better than my modeling skills…
