Hi John,
The addition of a figure really adds to your build, not only giving scale, but will help bring the vehicle to life once painted,
.
Cheers, ,

Cheers G, i will be doing a bit of practice painting first on some old figures to try and get a better finish on the flesh tone and the DPM on the uniform. ⦠As Iāve said before⦠Figure painting is not my happy place lol
Will you be using the new Miniart British tank crew John, or are they too modern for the time when your CVR(T) is represented?
G
I could of got away with using one of those figures, with some tweaking as we were in DPM over in Bosnia and not MTP as in the Miniart ones.
The one Iām using is from a British Warrior set so he will be the guy in the commanderās seat
Hi Johnny, the Miniart figures could be made to work as I remember you could sign out DPM coveralls in that style from the Q in '96/'97. They were great, pockets everywhere and plenty of room. My son is issued the MTP version now.
The odd thing is we never got them. We just had normal 95 DPM ā¦the drivers got issued the black one piece artic/extreme cold weather suits and that was it⦠Gortex till endex lol
Haha yeah, funny thing is I canāt ever remember wearing goretex trousers! Always found them too restricting and sweaty and the black quilted suits were far too bulky. We had a good QM, he demanded everyone two windproof smocks before they became standard issue and if you were lucky you got the arctic windproof trousers.
Who isnāt up for a few beers,
The first were Newcastle , 2nd Birmingham, 3rd London, as main recruiting areas as BNs went, (70-90s) Lancashire were spread to all three, now all in one, when we went to two BNs we provided the rest of the army with our over recruitment and the same when we went to one Bn, we are the only unit to have a waiting list to join.
That makes sense then as Bullet Smith and Iām 99% Geordie Clayton were 1st, I will ask him next as we have Skype meeting All me and Riggers did was recruit Fusiliers and Kingāos lolā¦and a few engineers ⦠It was ok for me as I was the E1 recruiter, Riggers had quotas to meet to keep RRF HQ happy⦠We did ok though
Regarding the draw bar tow pintle mounts and the armour mount strips it seems to be some point before the early eighties. They are on the New Zealand Scorpions (1982) and Spanish Scorpions (1985) and at least some of the RAF Scorpions (1981). Some other Scimitars, Scorpions as well and Sabres of course.
See the left of this picture
.I think it will just be an anomaly particular to these wagons and certain units. It may also have to do with vehicles being recalled for baseline overalls where the armour plate mounts may well of been removed prior to stripping and repainting etc. Regarding HCR, in 1990 when we moved back from BAOR to Windsor and onto CVRT ( & Fox) a few wagons had the pintle mounts and the more I think on it, I can vaguely recall a few with an armour plate mounts. That pic you posted looks like its a 90s image (if not later) and you can see the 2nd from R and the last wagon have armour mounts, and the next to last with the pintle mount, so a few would still be lurking about Im sure.
I stand corrected from my previous post, thatās the first time I have seen a hull have the armour strips and not the double tow bar points. That pic will be later than '95 which is when Sabre came into service. They also have the new rear hull bin and two piece stamped steel idler wheels (apart from the last wagon which is still using the 8 spoke cast steel version) so I would put them closer to 2000.
Well spotted, I overlooked the idler wheels. Now I look at it more Iām also thinking into the very late 90s to early 2000s.
Cool picture. Are those guys wearing black overalls?
Rich
It only lasted 9 years before it was withdrawn, the turrets were horrendous to work in, even more cramped than Scimitar. If you fancy yourself a CVRT pop along to my mate Rob who rebuilds them. He has an impressive personal collection apart from his vehicles for sale. His Saladin is mint.

Looks excellent John, canāt wait to see it painted up!

Yes, Royal Tank Regiment, black coveralls and black berets with an old style tank as a cap badge. They were the first tank regiment in the world formed in the first world war.
Yeah they are RTR crew. Royal Tank Regiment. Black denims (coveralls) are one of their traditions along with a black beret.
We must of been typing at the same time Max
Now where they used just for maintenance, and were they worn in the field?
