D Day -- -- D+80 Years

It drives it home that so many of the dead in so many of last century’s wars are remembered as an uncle, great uncle or the like; they died so young that they hadn’t had the chance to settle down and have families of there own…
I think I’ve mentioned this before: a friend never knew his father because he was only a few months old when his father was killed just a few weeks before the end of hostilities in Europe, having been on the front line pretty much continually since 1939 with only brief periods of leave. Worse yet, he wasn’t even KIA, he died when not on the line when some cretin accidentally detonated a grenade. My friend grew up an only child without siblings, uncles or aunts in a household of widows, as his father’s father had found an early grave in France in WW1…

Okay, my modelling life is like a bad comedy at the moment.

First the LHS had no paint stocks and I had to order several types I needed on line, for this build and some others.
The paints arrived, I started air brushing my Scammell Pioneer for the Convoy 2 GB and then the rocker switch on the compressor disintegrated - no power, no air…
I was going to get a replacement rocker switch from an electronics shop a few suburbs over today… until I looked at my Driver Licence and realised it expired on 3 June, not 23 June like I thought. No DMV open here on the weekends to get a new one, so it is a bus ride, Monday job to get that. Big fines here for driving with an expired licence, plus if I have an accident, my fault or not, I am responsible for any damage and my insurance won’t pay…

So… here is my Sexton entry, I’m calling it done for the GB as it is finished as close at it gets to the new end date. I have added the stowage, etc so it just needs flat coat and weathering…

Looks great mate, very nicely done indeed. The stowage gives it a good in use look as well. :+1:

Thanks John. There should really be a lot more stowage on the rear, but I did not want to hide too much. Just enough colour to break up the monotone SCC2. I may even throw a bit on the front eventually.

Really beautiful work. All pieces of stowage makes it look used, and personally I like to add figures to give some life. Excellent looking vehicle.

@petbat you’ve done an amazing job on that kit, it’s the first one I’ve seen built and it looks cracking!

well, I’m not going to be able to finish even with the extension the landing gear is so tiny I’ve broken several pieces, and work has required my presence on Saturdays
as of late sooo I enjoyed the build and watching other builds as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it later at some point.
