I made some progress last night, adding Polyfilla to the base (a Ferrero Rocher box - the real hardship is having to eat the contents first!) and sculpting the beach complete with tracks and locations for the DUKW. It’s a bit thick, so may take a few days to harden fully…
While it wants painting, I couldn’t resist posing the DUKW and Goliath for a quick piccie.
I may have to do a round of crack filling over the next few days - the shrinkage is setting in!
I was thinking of adding extra details such as a “hedgehog” or other figs, but I’m trying to match the original pic that had only the DUKW and Goliath as seen. Still, the spartan nature of it has an appeal of its own…
I finally got some Flat Coat paint, but it has just rained all weekend here. Far too much moisture in the air for a flat coat. So the Sexton is still not finished. I have decals down, tracks painted and all the stowage painted ready to be fit, I just need to flat coat and weather it and fit the tracks.
Finding decals was a lot harder than I thought… for the battery no I thought I would use an ‘A’ and ‘4’ from a U.S.A. Serial number… yeah right, finding 3 that were not the template type with gaps, and had the right number font was not as simple as I thought.
Looking nice Pete, that built up very well and good job with the decals as well.
Matt @SSGToms - mate will it be possible for an extension to be put in place say up to the 19th of June as a few of the guys would like a bit extra to get their builds completed … cheers dude.
My deep wading Sherman is done. It is the Heller 1/72 D-day Sherman kit bought at the Normandy beach during last years vacation. Does not get much more D-day than that.
The kit is fantastic and has a lot of modelling possibilities for different Sherman versions. Nice crisp detail - especially considering the 1/72 scale.
Thanks for a great campaign with fantastic entries. Looking forward to see more great finishers in the last weeks.
There are lots to see in Normandy. I believe I bought the kit at the museum shop here:
arromanches museum It is a great place to start - mainly because of the very comprehensive movie. This sets the context of Overlord for rest of the family who are not necessarily into the history in detail.
It might also have bought it at the Caen museum:
Caen Memorial Museum A very comprehensive museum that might take the better part of a day.
Very nice Jesper. Like you said, for 1/72, its really nicely detailed and the weathering finish you have done is super … great build and well done for the finish
Seeing as today is the D-Day anniversary, I pushed to get my base painted and took some iffy pics to post! (I’ll set up the booth and take good ones over the weekend…) And it’ll be at the MAFVA Nationals show in St Ives on the 15th.
