According to the caption in Sherman Firefly by Mark Hayward, this is another picture of “Carole”, embarded on a Landing Craft Tank on June 6, making the journey towards the beach.
Edit: Unfortunately, I just noticed “Carole” has a wading trunk so that one is out.
You might want to look into some of the Canadian ones that landed on Juno. They were offloaded directly onto the beaches and I do not believe they had wading trunks
Some great research and info going around and we still have 4 and a bit months left before the start date …
I am now thinking of possibly doing an M10 GMC … I know Academy do one with D Day markings …
I did the Achilles when it first came and really enjoyed that build. Had to scratch new ammunition racks and source 17pdr shells, but that was part of the fun.
They mainly used the scrap steel from Czech Hedgehogs, used as beach defenses, and thanks to the genius of an American GI, last name Cullin; were able to devise a simple, yet very effective tool to cut through the thick hedgerows and getting into open terrain, as to being bogged out in the narrow farm roads in and around Normandy.
I have a recently finished kit and nearly finished set of figures that I am planning to use on a D-Day diorama. Is that something too far along, or would it qualify for here?
I’ve settled on a kit. I will build the Trumpeter USS England as either USS Rich or USS Bates (the only 2 Buckley class Destroyer Escorts involved) both of which were part of the screening force for larger ships hitting Utah beach with artillery.
It will be my first ship, I have the WEM PE set as well as metal guns for the 20mm. I now have lots of time to research colors and such
