Das Tigerprojekt, AHHQ 1/16 Tiger with crew

You’re right about that. This photo is a great example:

Tiger 822 clearly has both the shields and the round cover. But later we see it, as “S11”, with neither of them.

Moving along, albeit slowly.

It’s a poo day here, weather wise, which is fine for modelling. And I’m not back to work until Wednesday. So, back to it.

Am I missing something here, step 14 calls for three smoke pots, R8+S50+S63, and step 20 calls for two, same combo… But there are only four R8 provided for five pots? What am I missing here? And, there is no smoke pot right mid hull, is there any science behind that? It’s keeping me awake at night…

Well, first of all, those are not smoke pots.
They are S-mine launchers.

Secondly, this is a mistake in the instructions, not on the sprues.
The two launchers at the rear corners of the vehicle, are supported by arms, and the kit provides two appropriate bases for them, with the arms molded in. They’re not on the R sprue - they are on the Q sprue.

There is no mine launcher at mid right because the mine would destroy the antenna.

thanks, David; I’ve picked up a few errors in the instructions, but not this one. If I ever get the chance, I’d like to buy you a coffee / beer for your assistance thus far, it is greatly appreciated.

Team Tiger Update,

A couple of the identifying features of S21 are the steel rope layout, left hull, and the barrel cleaning rods, hull top, split three to the left, two to the right. Thanks to David, I’ve recreated both, as seen below. Yes, they’re rough, they need some cleanup which I will be working on today.

Also, a layout of where this is going, I’m thinking a track pin has broken and the guys are taking a break for mail whilst repairing it, with tools scattered about. I’m thinking one half of the base a bare earth road, with grass in the corner under the barrel. Basic, but more likely to get done, and done well, rather than trying to pull off some masterpiece that will take forever, only to have it looking like last night’s McDonald’s cheeseburger that fell down the back of the couch when I was yelling at the ref on the tv, who never listens.

Other identifying features are the original wide rommelkist, which I need to work on, and the starter crank on the classis front.

Something like this for the groundwork

Progress, albeit incremental. Will have to start throwing paint soon…

I hope that cupola’s not glued on, because it’s at the wrong angle. It’s not a rotating cupola. One slot must face exactly forward.

Hola David,

Cupola is resting in situ while I continue work on the hull, it’ll be fixed in place with a visor facing forward, hopefully some time this week.

Kylie, this project is moving along. How would you like reading about the questions and observations, and David talking about the S-mine throwers, DR not liking the heat shields, etc.

Looking forward to your next installment.

Ah, thanks for the bump… I was working on the turret Rommelkist when I was distracted by a couple of figures, next thing a week became a month, and one month became two. I will get back to this, this week.

Ok, summer has been and gone, kids, holidays, Christmas too, time to get this back on track and finished. Right off the bat, does anyone know of a 3D printed wide turret bin available, please? Its going to save me a fair bit of time (& aggregation) if i can find one at a fair price. Thanks

That’s a good start.
