Hey Jim great job as usual looking forward to seeing this one finished. Based on your Chally I’m sure it will be excellent
Thanks Richard!
I have added washes and used them so slightly filter the finish. Mig dark wash and AK OIF & OEF wash, mostly. And I have matt coated everything too.
The tracks have had a coat of heavily thinned mix of tamiya red brown and black.
I think some pigments next…
Thanks for looking in, J.
Looking very nice Jim. I do like those washes … They do the job perfectly. I like the charging red knight… Looks cool.
Another great finish Jim, really excellent job on the camo
Rich
Thanks John, Thanks Richard!
I’ve come along a fair way with this one and it is just about ready for final assembly. So here is what I have done;
TRACKS, mig Europe dust pigments applied dry and worked in by brush with a little gulf war sand and dark mud here and there. Then flooded the surface with AK pigment fixer and when dry rubbed some graphite onto outer contact points with finger. Then flicked same pigments when wet with brush and tooth pic to represent splashes. Used an 8b pencil to “draw” on the road wheel contact points. It all ended up quite dark but I like it I think.
ROAD WHEELS, same pigments as above flicked on to represent smaller splashes from the larger splashes that fell from the tops of the tracks, if you know what I mean! Then the 8b pencil around the outsides and then polished with cotton buds to represent the polished steel.
HULL, all the above pigments applied using them mixed with thinner and loaded onto brush and airbrush used to blow onto model, also flicked with toothpick for variations and onto lower front and rear.
SPARE TRACK LINKS, a light dusting of the Europe earth pigment followed by the pigment fixer resulted in the finish shown, pure dumb luck on my part as I think they look pretty good too!
TOOLS, 8b pencil for the axe, hammer, spade, clamps and big plier things. A 2b pencil for the tow ropes and pry bars.
EXHAUSTS, mig pigments old rust, standard rust and light rust applied dry and then pigment fixer used again. And black soot pigment used around the tips. Reckon I should have some yellow on the lower portion but I’m not going to try to match that now!
I thinks that covers just about everything. Still have the mg to paint I notice and once everything is together some more pigments for the fenders.
Progress…
Running gear and exhausts fitted. Pics without fenders as they are going to mostly hide the tracks.
Cheers, J.
Jim, Lovely looking big King T. Nice sympathetic weathering and finish. Another great job on the paint front.
One Q?. Does the kit come with any vision blocks for cupola or sights ?
Or have the crew removed them for maintenance ? I only ask as I’m thinking of getting this kit next year.
Ah, I was wondering when someone would spot that, he says in a Manwairingey way! I had completely forgotten about them. Yes the kit does come with the blocks. Do you have any insights into colour to paint them?
Thanks John, great spot, cheers, Jim.
I normally do my WW2 in a feint translucent blue or green, but have no clue if that’s right or wrong… I just like them that colour. Sorry to notice it though if it causes more work.
Looking really very good!
As said, paint them a translucent bluish-green with the framework being a black semi-gloss enamel.
Thanks guys! So I used mig periscope green, which you can hardly make out, and AK third gen rubber black and fitted them. It was a bit of a palaver doing the hull ones, access is limited, but got there in the end. Turret was easy access. Also painted the hull mg.
Thanks again, J.
Looks really good Jim. And as a kit it looks pretty spot on build wise.
Thanks John, the kit builds into a really nice representation I think. Still some tinkering to do but pretty much finished now.
So here are some pics, with the last one of my three COVID builds, I think I might start a thread for people to show their lockdown production since the vaccines have started now…
Thanks for following everyone, Jim.
That is 3 very nice builds. Was a pleasure to watch each one as it developed. Great work throughout.
Thanks John, it’s been great to have your support and help along the way mate.
A heartfelt thanks, Jim.
Bravo on the Tiger.
Thanks DV, that’s much appreciated!
Cheers, Jim.
Another beautiful build!
Thanks Ezra. My most productive year for a long time!
Cheers, Jim.
