Death and Destruction in WNC

First I want to say that personally me and my neighbors really dodged a bullet,we avoided flooding and damage in the storm, and only lost power for 26 hrs but the area is pretty devestated,Asheville got hit hard, small towns like Black Mountain,Boone,Chimney Rock, and Swannanoa were devestated, will be a long time for them to recover.us and our neighbors are on wells and are supplying water to others who make it in,many are hosting family and friends.Even for us gas and food is scarce, and lines are long.Every day situation with power and communication improves, but its gonna be awhile.
I don’t know how many board members in the South East were affected but my thoughts are certainly with them. This is bigger devastation to me then when I was in NJ for Sandy.first day the phone signal is better

Anybody else dealing with the aftermath of the storm?

Good to hear that you are OK, given the circumstances …

As a one-time resident of High Point and occasional visitor to Ashville & Boone, my thoughts go out to those who have been impacted by this devastating event.

I wish your community and others affected a speedy recovery.

In our times of needs the US has sent power crews to help us clean up after hurricanes, this time Nova Scotia has sent crews to help.

Good to hear your ok Tony. I am about 4+ hours east of you, a non event in comparison for us.

Things in western NC are tough, they got hit harder than that region has ever been hit before. Given the scope of devastation it will be years/decades before it fully recovers. Niece was at App State (Boone), along with a friend’s daughter both are back home. A coworkers son was just rescued yesterday, the bridge collapsed near his driveway. There is 12’ drop from the end of his driveway now where it used to be level.

Latest report, the Stars and Strips are once again flying from Chimney Rock.

My dad is in Franklin NC so he was close but was spared the worst of it. Many of his friends and neighbors are temporarily cut off due to bridges being out or flooding.

Currently visiting mom in Cleveland County, North Carolina and we feel very lucky. Downed trees, blocked roads & power outages etc but overall came through OK.

However, adjoining counties in NC futher to the west were hammered badly by Helene…

Ashville, NC area…

…likewise many areas in the Southeast in Georgia, Tennessee etc were hit.
