Donbass 2014 diorama

I finished building this over the weekend. Decided to try out a different approach for the diorama base, instead of using paper mache i used modeling clay; It didn’t turn out to bad and may be what i do for future dioramas. The T-64 is from skif and i built it two years ago and finally was able to use it in a diorama. The figured are a collection of evolution miniatures and I believe TaNk. I used the Syrian spg-9 crew and repainted them with varying camo uniforms and gear. It was a fun doing a different camo pattern then what I’m used to.

Overall it looks really nice. Is the road just paved though? It looks too new to me. Maybe add a few potholes and some more weathering to the road surface.

@HeavyArty yeah i was trying to do a paved road between fields if anything. I did one pothole near the rear of the tank. I was thinking of adding one or two more. How else could i weather the road, it’s one thing i don’t have experience doing?

I would give it an overall dark grey wash first, then a couple dirt-brown/sandy colored washes o tone down the black. Think of a well-used, dirty section of asphalt.

@HeavyArty thank you, I’ll give it a try this weekend. May go back with an exacto knife and pick out another hole as well.

Sounds good. Here is a similar road I did on a Ukraine dio a couple years ago.

@HeavyArty that looks great, I’ll have to revisit the forum and see all the steps. Thank you!

I’m loving this diorama, well thought out and not to busy or to sparse, well done indeed.

@Klaus-Adler thank you, i had originally wanted to do a trench system but it was going to be to big for what i wanted. Have to thank those old dio books from Shep Paine
