Dragon T28 Super Heavy tank, buy now, or wait?

Hey guys, I’ve decided to get myself a T28 Super Heavy tank to compliment my Maus, but I quickly saw this kit is near extinct.
However, I saw this post on facebook:

Now, I wanted to ask if any of you guys know if there’s a precedent (since I don’t follow any kit news/updates) for these kinds of posts? Does this mean Dragon will re-release this kit?
If so, is there any way to know how long it will take to re-hit shelves? Or is that pure speculation, and until it happens, no way to know?
If it is going to be released, is there a chance it will be a limited run?
Am I better off not waiting for this uncertainty, and just bite the bullet and buy whatever T28 kit I manage to find online for 200$+?

I’d very much appreciate and be grateful for any input!
Also if this is not the kind of post to make in these forums, I’ll completely understand and accept removal of this post!
I am still quite new here
Cheers!

Don’t pay $200 for this $50 model. Hold tight and you will be rewarded.

Dragon has been rereleasing kits for many, many years now. In fact, I don’t think they’ve released a new tool kit for years. Wait. The kit isn’t worth $200 anyway.

Iv built it twice i found it to have som issues one example is the sponsons with the outter most set of tracks

Yes, it’s a pretty insane price haha, I only considered it out of fear I’ll never be able to get my hands on it again otherwise, given how it’s currently extinct online. So, wait for this re-relase? Hopefully I can get my hands on it online, it definitely won’t make it to where I live…

So this facebook post is regarding a regular re-release of their 2012 kit, no changes?
If you know from previous re-relases, may I ask, is it known how long it usually takes to hit online retailers?
Are they released scarcely? I’d assume so, since all stock from their (presumably) most recent re release are gone online…

Yes I’ve read that the sponsons and tracks and armor sloping are a bit inaccurate on this Dragon kit, and that Accurate Armour’s is more accurate (lmao), but, Accurate Armour’s kit is completely non existent for sale online, and since there are no other T28 kits, Dragon’s is my only option!

If there are any changes from the previous issues, they are usually minor, like changing magic tracks to DS tracks, or vice versa, or maybe a couple of small parts. No major error fixes. Usually the price has gone up considerably from the original price, though.

No idea how long it takes to arrive at retailers. Don’t even know when this kit will actually be released. I’ve stopped following or really caring about Dragon kits since they are all reissues of stuff I already have or wasn’t interested in the first time.

My feeling is that they just make one production batch of the kits and then move onto the next reissues, so once they are gone, they are gone for quite a while.

Ah, I see. That just revives my dilemma… I don’t want to wait like, years for the chance to get this kit…
Maybe I should bite the bullet and just buy the 200$ one…

Have you considered the reboxing by Platz?

Last time I checked US $123 + free shipping is less than $200 …

While we’re at it, does anyone know just what are the differences between the Dragon T28, and their other version, their 2 in 1 “T95” Super heavy?

It seems this version is more widely available, and cheaper. From what I’ve seen, and I might be wrong, it simply has an additonal chunkier gun you can add instead of the normal one (I tihink it’s the normal one) which is included as metal.
If that’s the case, I think it’d be a way better option to get this cheaper, more available version, and just assemble it like the normal T28.
Does anyone have any experience or info regarding this alternative kit :?

Takom has been releasing a lot of odd ball armor. I’d hang on and see if someone else releases one. I have the Dragon kit but I’m afraid to open the box and see what shape the DS tracks are in. Kind of a “Schrödinger’s cat” situation.

I’ve regretted not buying a model I was desperately keen to get hold of, and then not doing so; some years ago, an Airfix 1/32 Jaguar 420 appeared on eBay, going for a price that a small country wouldn’t be able to afford. I declined, and then all and any iterations of the kit practically disappeared. Now, as it happened, around a decade later, Airfix decided to re-release it, but I mean, that was 10 years!

If you want it, and you’re planning on building it relatively soon, then I’d say go for it.

It looks like the T95 kit has all the T28 parts and a couple extra T95-specific parts added to the D sprue.

T29 D Sprue

T95 D sprue with the T95 barrel parts added.

Oh, right! I completely forgot GuP has reboxes of tanks in the anime! This is another option that I should check out, thanks for pointing it out to me!

Takom is very solid and I like them a lot, have several kits, also waiting on their full interior Jagdtiger to release, but, holding my breath to see if they decide to tackle the T28, is… Very wishful, haha.
If they do end up releasing one, maybe it’d be worth it to get it to replace the innaccurate Dragon one!

Yes, I definitely agree. It’d be better to buy now than regret I haven’t when I could.

Oh that’s good! Then it’s basically a T28 kit with some… Additions. That’s good to know!

Okay guys, first of all, thank you all so much for chiming in to help and give thoughts to a newbie like me!
So, right now, I think I have two options.
Either get a GuP rebox like Uncle-Heavy suggested, or, buy the 2 in 1 kit that seems to be more available, and has been confirmed to be essentially a T28 kit, like HeavyArty pointed out

From looking around, it seems that the 2 in 1 T95 kit is more available, and also cheapr, roughly 90~ dollars.
So, it’s probably best to buy it and call it a day, yeah?
