Yeah I’d probably say so. Also If you do end up buying it I’d love to see your build of it on this forum!
I would not waste money on it if it were $20, 2 in 1 kit or not. How is two bad versions any better?
As we’ve seen with so many other kits, all you have to do is be patient.
I went to Ft. Benning specifically to photograph and measure the hell out this thing last year just prior to Thanksgiving. And I’m not particularly vested in it, but what the hell. I was paid. According to the collection’s director, three other companies had been there recently to do the exact same thing. Now you have to think something’s coming.
Sure looks that way!

Wait actually on second thought, you might want to wait. Although getting it now would be ideal, I feel like the options on the market might be very overpriced (given the 200 for a dragon kit) and waiting for a new release might be the better option. Along with this, as somebody who doesn’t have the largest budget for model kits biting the bullet and spending 90 dollars for a possibly bad kit doesn’t sound fun. Like I spent 20 something on this old eastern express SU-152 and I felt pretty bad about it. You might be better off buying a new release from say takom or another brand, or if you’re able to, going to a model show nearby might bring it to you. ![]()
Haha, I kind of wanted to post all my builds here after I posted my first one of an IS-2, but, since it’s going to be (at least) 28 more tank builds, Idk, I don’t want to spam this lovely forum with dozens of “Look at this tank I made” threads…
Lol, I get you. But honestly I just started posting one of my builds here and it’s been one of the best modelling decisions I’ve made! People are really friendly around here and I’ve gotten tips for things I didn’t even think about at all. You REALLY should try it out sometime! ![]()
(Also this is a scale modeling forum, more build forum threads wouldn’t hurt at all!)
Hmm… I mean, I very much get this
The more I read online as I research this kit, the more bad things I hear about its inaccuracy.
I mean, it seems like it really is quite the bad kit, even when it comes to fitting, seems like people are struggling with sponson fittings too.
But, the issue is, we don’t know when, or even if, someone’s gonna release a good kit…
Is it that horrendous that I shouldn’t even get it and display it until something better comes along to replace it? D:
That’s even more of a reason to wait, just for a bit at least. But if you can REALLY find it for a cheap price and you’d feel comfortable with it, I’d justify it. I feel like it’d really be wise to wait for at least a bit. Since 90 dollars is still 90 dollars, and maybe even a new release of this subject might be the same price, or hopefully even cheaper.
Seriously, why? Dragon putting it up on their Facebook page saying coming soon, means that they are rereleasing the kit. Why don’t you wait for the rerelease and see if you can get it? It probably won’t be that hard. Also, once they do rerelease the kit, the scalper prices on the original release are going to drop like a rock because no one is going to pay $200 when they can get the reissue for much less.
It doesn’t look like too hard of a build and looks the part when done. You can see some issues and how another modeler fixed them here:
He didn’t fix the incorrect width of the tracks, which is quite noticeable - not one of those instances where the length of an entire vehicle might be off by a few scale inches. The tracks themselves are off by more than that. And to fix them you need to fix the sponsons, and then one can see where it just cascades from there. In researching the thing, I was able to note every deficiency, out of necessity - you have to concentrate on measuring those areas the most. Suffice it to say, neither not “too hard of a build” nor " looks the part when done"
are on my list of attributes I look for in a model.
Why not?
We enjoy watching built kits (instead of kits in stashes) ![]()
I sold mine on Craigs List about 9 years ago,it had so many lengths of DS Tracks,I wonder what they look like now either on his build or in the bag
ragon have been re releasing their kits for a while now, adding value and keeping the old pricing (or close to it). So expect to get stuff like magic tracks, a crew and/or 3d printed additional parts. They have been rereleasing their line this way and I have to sayI like it. Just know that a kit like this can be 1 to 2 years away. As for accuracy, to someone who is not a t28 expert it looks like a t28, and it is the only game in town… I don’t think any manufacturer anywhere or at any time has released a 100% accurate replica of any vehicle… so build what you like man…
Oh geez…
So much differing opinions and advice, I don’t know what to do anymore…
Personally, I do like and strive for my models to be as accurate as they can, and research kits before I get them to see if they’re accurate (Got a Tamiya M-51 kit even though I don’t really like Tamiya, because I read that the Academy and Dragon ones aren’t great)
So, maybe it is better to just wait for someone to make a better kit…
If 18bravo says three other companies came to measure the T28, maybe we do have 3 incoming kits?
If I do wait, how would I know a T28 kit released? I don’t really keep up with release news, I don’t even know how to. Just follow every kit company? Do they even have twitters? ![]()
Just hang around here, even if it is not published as a regular news article someone is sure to start posting about it.
No follow here as Uncle-Heavy above states and follow the new releases on https://www.scalemates.com/kits/news.php
Beware!
It is addictive, triggers thoughts like " Ohh! I NEED that!"
