Dreams Are Free Group Build (Oct 2020 - Mar 2021)

Inching along, managed to fudge the exhaust pipes to nearly match the exhaust collectors.

Time to move on to the cooling system and the cockpit.

Mark,
From the bottom looking up I’d say that you did one heck of an excellent job getting the exhausts and headers to align. Looks perfect to me. And the entire overall view really looks like the real deal.

Joel

Thanks Joel. The inner/ lower pair went in pretty easy. The outer / upper set was a much bigger problem. I spend a lot of time filing the inside down to clear the drive shaft, then had to bend the headers to align. A lot of touch up paint later and it looks OK.

Too bad about the eye thing. My wife’s headed for the surgery herself, don’t think she has all the confounding factors you and I have. Here’s hoping it goes well.

Mark,
It’s the end results that count, and the pics prove beyond any doubt that you made it work.

I’m sure that your wife’s Cataract surgery will go just fine. My issues is Retina disease, the Cataract surgery did what it was supposed to accomplish. But it can only do so much for someone with my eye issues.

Glad to see that all the GB members are still working on their entries. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of them cross the finish line.

Joel

I hope you will all forgive a brief interjection into this thread, but I’ve been contemplating how the way 2020 went and the way 2021 is starting out has affected my perception of a “Dream Machine”. Now it’s trending towards something out of a nightmare, and I’m sort of wishing I had something like this available…

I regret parts of the photo are out-of-focus, the model would look better if it were entirely so…

Although I am not afflicted with the severe difficulties some of the stalwarts of this group are labouring under I do have certain problems which prevent me from completing anything to a level which I once would have considered minimally acceptable (not that my standards were ever that high) and tend to inhibit me from completing or even commencing projects. The atrocity shown above was completed over the course of a weekend a little over a month ago in a last minute attempt to beat the deadline for a build on another group. I hope it may – at least in part- be redeemed by some repainting when the weather warms up; it then might be the subject of a “car valeting” by ICM’s recently released “Chernobyl Deactivators” (for which “Decontamination Squad” is probably a better description).

Cheers,

M

Almost a milestone. Except for a few touchups, I think the engine compartment is finished!

Now, On to the interior and the bodyshell.

[MoramarthT],
For sure that Camaro owns any road that it’s on.

As far as joining in any of our GBs, please feel free to so. Skill level isn’t important, it’s just doing the best you can. And as long as you’re satisfied with that, then it’s good enough to be posted here.

Mark,
WTG!!!
The Ferrari Testarossa engine came out looking simply outstanding. Just great detail painting made so many things just pop.

Some great builds. I like the post-apocolyptic car. Would look at home in Mad Max!

Not managed any work on mine put the Paragrafix etch set has arrived.
Some very nice details are included, especially the printed acetate for the consoles. Even has a little in scale blaster!

The brass is thicker than usual, but as it’s mostly all flat panels I don’t think it will be a problem. Might even be a bit easier to work with as there’s more of an edge for glue to adhere to.
The other cool thing, is that it has optional parts for the full size drivable prop and interior set used in close ups. So technically, I could do both this kit and the other in the stash. Not to mention leftover acetates for the Spinner consoles when I get around to that one. So, a good investment I think.

Thanks joel. It’s easily the most work I’ve ever put into an engine either on a plane or a car. I’m glad I fretted over what colors to paint all of the the different components. I wanted to capture the look of a premium engine. My biggest regrets are that most of it is hidden and I cant photograph it worth a damn.

No “Blue Monday” here, it’s Red Friday!

Finished detailing the dash and gave the interior a dirty black/brown oil pin wash.

Dashboard installed and curing, then the tub will be fitted to the floor pan and we are ready to fit the chassis assembly to the body shell.

While this is curing I’m shooting some SMS Super Silver on the inside rim half, and will assemble the wheels ready to fit to the chassis.

D,
Nice progress as you’re really getting close to the finish line now.

While I liked the look of the two tone interior in it’s pristine, right out of the showroom look, the wash has toned those bright colors down perfectly to what I’d expect to see if I was a 1/25th scale person.

Joel

OK all of you color mavens, I need some help. Monogram said to paint the seats tan and the interior brown. UGH, I decided on a tan interior (radome tan to be exact), with brownish seats (Testor’s wood). I’m trying to deduce the colors for the trim. I found these two online:

The carpets don’t look too far from radome tan. But the console looks brown.

The seats appear to be a bit yellowish but the console looks metallic black or semi gloss black. Ignore the garish red carpet.

I’m all masked up and ready to paint. Should I use the semi gloss black or something else?

Mark,
I have nearly a perfect match for the seats. It’s Gunze Mr. Color Sail #C45. Not sure why I bought it.

You could use the same color with a little dark Brown added for the carpets.

joel

The first trim looks like it has a touch of purple in it to me!

Ok, we are on our feet and standing level, and the body is set up nicely. I also installed the radiator panel and top radiator hose.

Next up I will do some test fitting of the front and rear bumpers and tail lights, and once they are sorted I will leave them off while I apply the BMF on the trims.

D,
Impressive for sure. Gotta just love the pic through the driver’s window and the open engine hood shot.

Looking good Damian. Beautiful paint finish.

Did a little work today prepping some of the etch display panels, acetates and experimenting with LED placement.
I’m using some white micro LED Christmas lights I picked up really cheap. They’re really tiny and should be easy to fit into some of the tight spaces on this kit. I also grabbed a set of multi coloured for other projects.

Fit of the etch panel was perfect to the plastic dash. The acetates are printed slightly bigger and need a little trimming. Look great with some light shining through.

I did consider cutting out the plastic dash, but I think the white plastic works to diffuse the light.

Hopefully it should all work out.
