Dreams Are Free Group Build (Oct 2020 - Mar 2021)

Getting the spark plugs wired.

I do not know how Revell expected an easy connection between the plug caps and the spark lines!
I have drilled out the rocker covers and I am using 0.020’’ brass rod and I open up the cap with a tooth pick and then super glue the spark line in.
The distributor cap has had all the molded caps cut off and 0.020" brass rod glued in.
Next up paint the cap and then install lose end of plug leads.

D,
Great to see the Nomad so close to the finish line. Been a great trip down memory lane.

Richard,
So looks like you’ve won the battle with those ignition wires. I struggle with just the basic wires from the distributor cap to the plug holes in the heads. You’ve got the boots at both ends. I’d say that super Kudos for sure.

joel

@tinbanger, I agree with Joel. That engine looks awesome and the wiring just sets it all off beautifully!

A couple more “glamour shots” of the completed '57 Nomad, it was a fun build and relatively trouble-free.

D,
Just one stupid question from a Old Timer. I’ve never understood why so many of these customs for the street with blown engines don’t have low restriction air cleaners? I can personally attest to just how fast you will need a a full ring job, main & rod crank bearings running the car that way on the street. I did it with my MG Midget with one side duel draft Webber carb and just loved the sound without any air cleaner. Engine went in just a few months of normal driving on Long Island.

Fantastic shots of the Nomad. Engine looks amazing and I am sure would turn heads on any street.

The garage got the bus mobile this week.
Wheels, brakes, gear change and exhaust fitted so it could fire up. No driver’s seat yet though.

Next up, some passenger comforts.

Michael,
The chassis with full running gear looks fantastic, especially with your weathering. this is going to be a classic for sure.

joel

Looks great Michael. You’ve reached the point when my builds start to crumble, the running gear looks great, but the body work always fails me. Best of luck going forward.

Many thanks for the feedback on the Nomad build folks, as always very much appreciated! To be honest the build went more smoothly than I anticipated, knowing the potential pitfalls with these old Revellogram kits, but perhaps that was because I took my time and double-checked at most points.

Well in a pleasant turn of events my '57 Nomad won second prize in the Transatlantic Cars Competition “Dream Rides” which started alongside this Group Build but finished at the end of January.

It seems that I now have a Hudson Hornet kit on its way to me from Canada!

Bit of coachbuilding now.
Lots of windows, lots of masking and we got the inside cabin done. I left some of the upper windows open.

Slow process in masking the inside from the outside. Inside it is beige, outside off white

The driver’s space is fairly minimalist - just an extinguisher for company

The ceiling comes with some brass handrails and a bell for the driver

The floor of the upper deck (same in the inside cabin) required more masking to highlight the treads.

to get the effect I wanted

Most other parts already painted so more photos to follow shortly.

Beautiful neat painting there Michael, it’s looking amazing! I love the varying sheen levels and subtle tone differences, they really give it life!

Cheers, D

Michael,
Just a fantastic job of painting/detail painting the interior. The seats have that realistic look of worn leather yet at the same time a sheen from constant sitting and rubbing from one’s bottom :joy:

Really love how you varied the look of the upper floor, as the final results are most pleasing and surely very convincing. Even the driver’s fire extinguisher has just the right amount of weathering.

Can’t wait to see your next update.

joel

Finished the motor for the beast.

I made my own fuel lines from copper wire.
The rims that I am using do not fit the tires very well so that’s the next thing to fix.
Body is painted and ready for windows.

That engine looks amazing Richard. The beauty of a larger scale I guess gives you a lot more room to work.

Thanks Damian and Joel. This is a nice kit if somewhat on the tiny side but the detail MiniArt provides is very impressive. Top deck is not far away.
