Dutch MBT-70 (GVT-70)

I was getting at all the action before the actual VIP enters the scene.
Hours (?) of work and the visit is over in maybe 10 minutes?
When the VIP is gone the work resumes for all the others, wrapping up.

Ordered today Bert; he provides very good poses but they still need some work, belts are often too narrow for some reason. Regarding the uniforms for that time: it seems that normal Army combat jackets were worn - as opposed to what’s on the figure - not necessarily with the aiguillettes either, so I suspect lots of sanding and converting once they arrive:

Well, yes, that’s about the nature of the beast.

My experience of not meeting the Swedish chief of the armed forces.
Large exercise at the end of the initial training for conscripts, some
units were called in for repeat training. The whole show is a big deal.
The ensign (he and the lt were in charge of training two company
quartermasters, the cooks and the logistics guys) and I had been on
an errand with one of the terrain vehicles and were returning to the
camp site when we spot some limousines.
The ensign says ‘Oh f-ck! C-in-C is here’ whereupon I respond
‘Just drive straight ahead, the road goes up to the top of the ridge,
should be a nice view up there.’
I always want to check the maps and have a “grip” on the terrain
I am in.

That DAF with the blue lights et.c. would add a nice touch of colour.

Great idea on the DAF’s!

And theee might be better, less work?

Relaxing while the prins is talking with the others?

I’ve already got the guy smoking, he’ll be the DAF driver. Ditto the figure bottom right; I’ll modify him a bit - note the thin belt - and he’ll be the CO of the GVT-70’s parent unit. So, in the immediate VIP party, we’ll have HRH, an Aide, the CO, the 3 x crew of the tank.

I’m pretty much decided that I will pursue the KM option, and envisage 3 x MPs around their vehicle.

For the Prince Bernhard figure, I plan to convert the Patton figure from this set:

I might make an aide figure from the same Patton donor figure. This is why I harvest and stash these old figure kits folks!

Good though the Sylly’s models are, frustratingly they are not sporting tank suits, so a fair bit of figure converting will be required, but then, those who follow my builds, know that that is always the way. I will use this figure as one of the crew, I can modify that as combat jacket over the tank suit, but I’ll have no option other than to reach for the Magic Sculp I fear re the remaining 2 x crew members:

So, figure intensive, and the faces do not match the detail say, on a Hornet Head, but we’ll see how they come out. I’m committed now!

It would Robin, which is why I’ve I’ve decided now to get an extra vehicle.

Another option is a NEKAF, the Dutch version of the M38A1 jeep. Though the diorama will probably be more interesting with two YA-66s than with a YA-66 and a NEKAF (or a Munga), because the latter makes it look more like a gathering of different vehicle types while two DAFs give the impression they arrived together.

The thing is the M38A1 is a larger vehicle than the DAF, and given the admittedly, self-imposed size restraints of my bases, I think it would encroach just too much. I might have the KM vehicle with the top down just to ring the changes but then I’ve got to fill the interior with logical stuff.

I had thought of a Munga, I’ve 3 in my stash but they’re practically unbuildable (ACE Models) and I just haven’t the heart to wade into that particular world of pain.

YouTube thought I should watch this, and scrolling through it, I thought this particular part of it would make a good post here

Thanks for that Jakko - helps with the uniform details. And Leopards storming across the German countryside - what’s not to like?

Great concept and looks like another great build in the making :+1:

There are also some good pictures of M113 C&Vs in it (though with M26 turrets still, as this is 1973).

Yeah, I haven’t watched it all, but a gem for Cold War modellers, and for reference for this particular project. Thanks for displaying it.

Since the MBT 70 is the focus of your diorama I think you should ditch the APC and make the base smaller. Just my opinion.

I’ve only watched the first 10 minutes at most, but what a great video! I noticed some M577s, AMX-13s, Leopard 1s, but what is that 8 wheeled vehicle?

DAF YP-408 I would guess

Looked vaguely familiar. Thought it was a Saracen for a moment but it’s got 8 wheels. Any kits in 1/35 scale of this thing? Cool!
