I have the same question about the Meng Leo2A4.

Maybe we should do a 2A4 group build.

I have Hobby Boss’ 2A4 to do in Dutch colours.

That sounds a good idea Ron.I think i have the Revell 2A4 Netherlands in my cupboard.Saving that one definately so will try and knock the Italeri into some sort of order

Damn, a tad too late for me - though I, or Esci may have mis-identified the mark; anyway, I had great fun with this one (showing off a tad I admit):

Thanks Rich; I actually like getting the best from the older, clunkier kits such as Esci’s and Italeri’s.

And if they’re in what I refer to as Bundeswehr Brown, then that’s just fine too(!)

Plenty more kits to chose from for a second go.

Well, I do have one of the aforementioned clunky Italeri ones in the stash, destined to be shown as an early Leo 2 - but when? Oh when?

It sometimes feels like I’m building more Bundeswehr stuff than anything else!

Well how strict are you going to be … officialy :

RAL 6014 ALT from 1956 - 1962

RAL 6014 NUE from 1962 - 1984

3-tone from 1984 - now

The Leopard 2A4 would have come from the factory in the 3-tone camo.

Earlier marks would have been painted RAL 6014 NUE untill rebuilt into the 2a4 standard …

HTH,

Sam.

Shouldn´t that read RAL6014 NEU?

Neu

This began with the 2A3, which was delivered from November 1983 through December 1985. The 2A4 first came out of the factory in that same month.

So it sounds like thats a No for the Meng kit unless its back dated to a A3?

I haven’t quite checked yet - but I need to do the same I don’t think there’s that much to do. A change in the positioning of the tow cables, and the possibility of the PZB 200 sight. Also some of the non-slip patches might need adjustment - none of this is insurmountable I feel; the PZB sight is available as a separate item form one of the German resin accessory manufacturers - I’m away form my resources and references at the moment.

Mike Shackleton’s got a good handle on all this and he very kindly sent me a small brief on it all but see above, I’m AWOL at the moment.

The aim being of course (not mine I hasten to add):

Ill have to look what the differences are between the two makes.

To my knowledge the Italeri so-called Leopard 2A4 is an early Leopard 2 and not a A4. So Gelboliv alt is mandatory.

I can’t remember where I read it though.

To a 2, 2A1 or 2A2 — those were around in yellow olive (that’s the official English name for that colour). Everything from 2A3 or later, at least in German service, was in three-colour camouflage straight from the factory.

Too right Brian.I like tinkering with older kits,I used to have the old Esci one with i believe cat 87 on turret.I think in my cabinet i have the old Concord book on Leopard 1 and 2s.I seem to remember it has info on the early mark 2s.Maybe a little group build could be fun.Im sure Jakko and Ron might be tempted.
