Eastern front fortifications

@Naseby-These guys are GrossDeutschland.
@Karl-yep I always write I began by building tanks, gluing the hatches shut and throwing the figs away. Now I build the figs and maybe built the tank as an afterthought or backdrop to the scene.
@Dan- Yep, never born so never missed.

Some of the detail bits I am working on for the scene.

Perfect example of the height of quick trench building …

I picture the guy going on run to BN and not coming back…

Tea time is over! I like that you cocked buddies helmet a bit to the side. From this camera angle I find there is more perspective of how shallow this hasty trench is.

A little rain and its a slippy slide sloppy mess.

John, Dan and Barney,
Thanks Gents for typing in your comments guys.
Here is the finished dio. I think I already covered the concept here when I first posted so no need to be redundant,

OMG Jerry that is sensational! A complete dire feeling of chaos being under fire. Who would ever think some hunks of plastic can bring you the, smells, sounds, snaps and confusion of actually being there. I am gobsmacked, you are a tour de force!

You started this on 27 Feb and finished it on 4 Mar, am I correct?

Thanks mate.
Ummmm no I don’t think it was that fast. I first posted here when it was well underway and so it would give a false impression. Thanks again man,

This is really outstanding, Jerry. While looking at this I can hear the sounds of commands being shouted, machine gun and mortar fire, and screams of those wounded in my head. Well done, my Friend.

You really don’t see many trench dios from WW2 so this is a real treat Jerry! Again, its your eye for detail and composition that really set this apart in a class of its own. Right down to the roots pushing out of the earth, pretty much every inch has something to see and tell the story. I love the two fellas in the mortar pit- jammed so close together yet having to do fast and accurate work- one round after the other as they have ready to go there.

Another little scene frozen in time … so much to look at and take in. This will take a few visits to soak in all the details. Definitely a first class representation of a battle trench system…
Love the dead body ( not in a weird way !!) … Something often overlooked but in this case it’s done sympathetically and flows into part of the scene. Fantastic work … Now for a 2nd longer look :+1:

@ReconTL6- Thanks brother for the very kind remarks. I know you appreciate what I am trying to show here@Dan- thanks you sir.
@ Karl-Thanks as always for the very well constructed remarks buddy. Yes,my main goal here at the beginning was to show how narrow and/or small these ditches were. You’re not gonna dig a canal in a short time with just an etool,
@ Johnnych01-Thanks for the very kind and generous comments buddy. I am always happy to read that people notice all the details. When I build them I am always thinking if anyone would even notice this stuff.
Thanks as always to the lurkers out there as well,
J
